There's plenty of upcoming modeling events in 2017, and the AMA Foundation has a number of them that we'd like to highlight. I recently spoke with Mandee Mikulski, Director of Development at the AMA Foundation, who told me about three notable events coming soon.
The AMA Foundation will be hosting its inaugural AMA Foundation for the Future Jet Rally, August 24-27 in Ottumwa, IA. This event will be held in conjunction with the annual Fly Iowa event hosted by the Ottumwa Regional Airport on a 100 x 3,500-foot runway closed to full-scale aircraft for the weekend. The airshow will include a Friday night BBQ, Saturday full-scale airshow, Saturday night pilot’s dinner with live entertainment, and much more. Visit amafoundation.modelaircraft.org/jetrally to learn more and to register.
National Model Aviation Day is the one day AMA asks each of its 2400 clubs to celebrate model flying by hosting or attending an event. This year’s celebration is scheduled on August 12 and we want this year’s celebration of the hobby to be the largest yet. Gather your club members and plan to host and event to celebrate the hobby and raise public awareness for their groups and our national organization. AMA has developed several resources to help make your event a success. This year the AMA Executive Council has selected the AMA Foundation as the national charity of support for the 2017 celebration. Join the AMA Foundation for a swap meet to be held during National Electric Fly-In (NEFI) and Ready Made RC FPV Fest , in Muncie, IN. Visit AMA’s International Aeromodeling Center for a great day of flying and to find or make good deals. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, sign up today—tables are only $20 each! Check-it-out on your website, http://amafoundation.modelaircraft.org/swapmeet/.
