MIXED CONTEST - FSS #3, April 29th & 30th, 2017, at Kennyworld, Ocala, Florida

FSS Unlimited Thermal Duration Soaring Contest #3 will be held on Saturday, April 29th, and Sunday, April 30th, 2017, at Kennyworld, west of Ocala, Florida. It will be a mixed contest with electric-powered gliders and winch-launched gliders allowed. Our contest director will be Jamie Mercado.

Pilots will be classified as Masters, Experts, or Novices. (Please see the FSS website for details.) Saturday, the pilot meeting will be held at 9:45 and the contest will begin at 10:00. Sunday, the pilot meeting will be held at 8:45 and the contest will begin at 9:00.

Each day the beginning task time will be announced and task times may change after each round. The CAM altitude limit setting for electric-powered gliders and the number of rounds to be flown will also be announced, and other rules may be discussed later in this thread or announced at the pilot meeting.

Kennyworld is located at 17150 SE 60th St, Morriston, FL 32668 on the south side of the road. (What is that strange spherical UFO in the Google Street View picture?)

The flying site, which is the home of the One Wing Low Squadron, is provided by Kenny Goodwin. The contest will be run by the Pompano Hill Flyers with launch equipment provided by The Orlando Buzzards.

The nearest hotels are at Exit 354 of Interstate 75. The contest site is a 20 mile drive from there. Other nearby hotels are at Exit 350 (Route 200, SW College Road) and Exit 352 (Route 40, West Silver Springs Blvd.)

Please monitor this thread for any changes or additions.

Any ideas what that UFO could be? You can see the power lines well above it so it's not one of those foam safety markers, and when you move along the road you'll see the position change, which means it's possible to figure out how far off the road it is. It's not an artifact of the camera because it only shows in Kenny's field and not further down the road. Apparently the photo has been there since 2008 but I had never noticed it before.

This reminds me of the mysterious crop circles I once discovered in the satellite view of the Buzzard's field on Red Ember road, which turned out to be landing targets for a Gentle Lady contest.

I think it is a power line marker for the line going to Kenny's house.
What do I win?

I'll bet they put the marker there to remind the guys flying from the runway.
