Coming Soon! RunCam 3 HD

The new RunCam 3 is a 1080P HD camera for drone racers or general FPV fliers. It sports a replaceable lens cover, improved audio recording, and increased RFI shielding. Let's see what else this little cube camera has onboard!

Coming Soon! RunCam 3 HD Drone FPV Camera

The Session Gets Some Competition

RunCam is doing their best to become the defacto name in FPV cameras; the Swift and Owl are well known in the drone racing and general FPV communities. The original RunCam HD and RunCam 2 have also proven their worth as rugged and dependable HD cameras, born to accompany dedicated FPV cameras aboard race rigs and FPV exploration and long-range aircraft alike. Now, RunCam has stepped up the game with an HD camera designed to fit in all the gimbals and stationary mounts designed for the GoPro Hero Session. The aptly named RunCam 3 sports that familiar cube shape, and will be selling for a very respectable $99.99.

The RunCam 3 has selectable Wide Dynamic Range, 155 degree FOV, and has a replaceable "Corning gorilla glass 3" front lens cover. Also onboard is a high sensitivity dual microphone and independent audio chip for clearer sound recording, and improved RFI shielding, for playing nice with video transmitters. The RunCam 3 is currently in preorder and is scheduled for release to the public on April 10th, 2017.

Total knob question

Im new to the Drone world, will this camera integrate with the transmitter I already have or is it a stand alone system for recording ?

While you could connect it to an FPV transmitter, there is lag to it. It's really just used as an HD recording camera and you would still want a normal FPV camera to connect to the video transmitter.

Hi all,

Thanks very much for your support to RunCam.

The latency of the RunCam 3 is very low. You can use is as FPV camera.
With its excellent WDR function, the live out is very awesome!

Bold claim indeed ........ what is the exact lag please? video?

If it's good, then I'm sure that evidence posted early in this thread will assist your initial sales effort.

RunCam 2 was also claimed to have the shortest latency and many people tried to measure it by filming a smartphone's stop watch together with RunCam's live output on a screen. In such tests the lag was quite short, however, in real flight the live out stuttered whenever the image content had to change rapidly. In addition to that the frame rate of the live out dropped significantly in darker environments (flying through a forest, for example). I tried to use RunCam 2 with live-out for FPV on my miniquad on several flights but finally gave it up due to the mentioned effects.

Please don't rely on latency measurements in static and controlled environments.
