Build Log
George Miller T-38 Talon
OK, got my new kit and have to start thinking about what I want in her and how scale I want to take it.
So, I'd like some input or info on guys who have used the Jet Fan 120 Pro EDf unit. I'm debating on using that or a Dynamax unit converted to EDf for the Talon build. I have not used or seen a Jet Fan 120 Pro and looking at the photos online, the motor mount hub doesn't look that strong with only 6 stater's holding it to the outer shroud. All the videos of the Jet Fan unit's I've seen are the 90 mm or the 120 ECO units. They do sound pretty nice. The original Talons built by George weighed in at around 11 lbs. but he built them very simple and light. I will most likely be adding a working rudder, electric retracts vs. air, a cockpit tub for some realism, and possibly working speed breaks. Also flaps as our club runway is only 300 ft. of blacktop. I'm hoping to have an air frame of about 14 lbs. flying weight on a 12 cell battery pack. I was looking at the 120 Pro with a HET 800-68-685kv. This set up reportedly get's about 19+ pounds of thrust. That would be more than needed. So chim in guys and let me have some of your thought's and ideas. Thanks. |

Have you looked at the DS86 series fan from Schuebeler jets? I have one installed in my L39, and it pushes it with authority!

Oh yeah!
Yeah, I was watching it and just couldn't take it any longer. I have always had a soft spot for the 38. And I've seen George Miller kits before knowing he build's them is a KISS format.
Keep It Simple Stupid. Looking now to start the shopping list. |

Yes
I was considering that as well. Would love to put in one of their new DS-98-DIA HST with DSM6043-650 units. But I'm on a budget and that's some serious cash for that unit and the controller.

Het 685
I would not recommend the Het 685 with Jet fan120, based upon reports of burned out motors. Several of them mentioned on here. As Par notes the 685 runs hot. And as the jetfan does not have a metal centerbody to dissipate the heat. Look to hear from "Tumbler" on here for his experience. You can also look to Corsairnut on here as to which motors he ran in his F15 with the Jetfan 120s. No personal experience on this , just what I have read!!!!!

Jet Fan 120 Pro numbers
So this is what they are saying for numbers on the 120 Pro. How accurate are they? Looks like the 800-73-590kv would be a happy fit. Lower amp draw, cooler running and with 12 cells still getting 16+ lbs. of static thrust.

Problem is finding a good fan unit our there. I've seen a few for sale but not looking all that great. Also not to impressed with the sound they make.
