I have bought some returned/"faulty" WLtoys cars on eBay/Germany and used them to create my own versions! Sometimes there was no "fault" noticeable!
I was able to get 3 to 4 working cars out of 5 returned ones! Price for one car was from 7€ to 8€. I have always ordered a bunch of cars, so I had to pay the shipping of about 7€ only once.

To make it easier I call the by my own created cars version A, B, and C!

The different diameters of the wheels, the different wheel bases and the different weights are influencing the driving performance noticeable!

I guess it would be fun to race with this cars on a RCP indoor track!
The plan is to build a DIY RCP track out of cheap foam floor puzzle mats.
It should be possible to make an 3.7m x 2.5m DIY track for below 100€ out of puzzle mats. You can see the plan, materials and calculations in posting #5 of this thread. EDIT: I thought it will be araound 60$. Puzzle mats are more expensive. So it will come around 100$.
I recommend a USB wall charger with several USB hubs. I got one from eBay with on/off switch and 6 hubs for 7€ shipped.

The cars are very durable, fast and lot of fun for kids between 3yo. and 10yo.
Especially with the 5 different throttle modes/steps!

I wish the body shells had brighter and more vivid colors!


I will try to add 8520 motors at a few of my models later.
Also I have found some lipos at Banggood from 150mah to 260mah wich possibly fit into the chassis. Maybe with cut outs for the bigger ones!
Dont know if a bigger lipo is needed for the bigger motors or if the board can handle the bigger motor!
The stock 120mah lipo has an inbuilt over charging protection curcuit.

You will need always the specific mounts (mounts are screwed on the chassis) for the shells! In case of the L929 shell combined with the A999 wheels you have to cut the shell a little bit to get the wheels spinning while steering! A999 wheels will not work with L939 and A989 shell without customizing or cutting the shell!

Would be nice if Banggood sells the needed parts like body shells with mounts, wheels, axle pins, circuit boards, front axles, wheel suspensions!
Bangood wrote that they will offer the wheel axle pins in a beg of 10 or 20. They are weak points in a front impact or when a kid steps on the car.

Unfortunately I have zero experience with race tracks! I cant say anything about the grip of the foam or which cross section the rails should have.
I guess the measurements of the rails are depending of the size, weight and speed of the used cars. And of course personal preferences.
I will use mainly L939 and A999 cars, I guess "smaller" rails will be good enough for these cars. About 3cm x 3cm.

I can get a set of 10 puzzle mat sheets with 31cm x 31cm per sheet. Cost of one set is 7€.

For the race track I will need 96 sheets for the 3.72m x 2.52m base. So I will need 10 sets with 10 sheets per set. Thats 70€.
For the rails, depending on the size of the rails, 3 sets of puzzle mats. Thats 21€.
(Size of the rail will be 3cm height and 2cm width. I am not sure if this is big enough!?)
A can of 540 gramm UHU por or similar foam glue. Thats 10€ to 15€. Maybe more glue is needed? Depends on what you will use for the rails!

All together approximately 110€!

I will glue the single puzzle sheets together to get 8 bigger sheets. Marked by the red lines on the plan. Size of one sheet will be about 150cm x 90cm. It is easier to assemble and dissasemble 8 big sheets than 96 small sheets.
So I will have 8 big sheets which makes the assembly and disassembly easy. This size should be small enough for storage.

For the rails I will cut the single sheets in stripes of 2cm width and glue 3 of them one above the other. That will give me, depending on the height of one single sheet, a cross section of 2cm x 3cm. Height of a sheet in my case is 1cm.
I am not sure if 2cm width and 3cm height for the rails is enough. And maybe it will be better to use softer foam for the rails in case of impacts to save the cars from getting damaged.

Maybe you can find square foam in the needed measurements for the rails. Using such a foam square rope will help to save time and effort. If it is self adhassive it will help too!

I will try to realize this track with my "Kindergarden-Group". I think when the track is finished the kids will have some ideas with jumps, hills and obstacles made out of foam. Or whatever material we will find for this purpose.
I guess it will be a lot of fun racing on it and building it too!!!

I am trying to paint a L939 body shell by my own. Never painted a body shell. At the moment I am trying to clean the shell from the stock color. I am using acetone. I honestly can say this is a pain in the.........whatever you can imagine!

Would be nice if BG sells clear bodys for A999, A989, L939 and L929!
And of course some of the other parts for these cars to play around with different setups. (tails, wheels shells, shell mounts and axles)

I want to modify the a999, and to have interchangeable batteries. But I worry about compatibility. Must have the batteries a LVC included, or worth 3.7v normal battery ?????

I have made a mistake first. The stock 120mah batt has no LVC inbuilt. The inbuilt curcuit of the 120mah bat is a over charging protection curcuit for the battery. You can use any 1s lipo. No over charging protection circuit needed. But you cant use the stock USB charger with those batteries.

Thanks but have you seen the first part of that video I linked!? Does he not clearly demonstrate proportional steering? I also saw other videos of old l929 models with no proportional steering. Do you have an old or new model?

No, there is nothing about proportional steering in this vid.

In the first part of the vid is a slightly movement of the front wheels. But thats the play in the steering system I guess.
