Is there much point playing simulators with an xbox controller?

I'm trying to play drl sim with an xbox one controller while waiting for my radio to arrive (supposed to be here by tomorrow from gearbest but hasnt left china yet!) and it's putting me off a bit!

Would a proper radio be much easier?

Probably, taller sticks would give you a bit more resolution. However, stick time is stick time.

Gearbest's delivery times are legendary!

While a gaming controller is hardly a perfect substitute, it's better than nothing. How long have you been flying the sim?

An hour tops I think. But the input seems a bit Laggy before the quad actually moves. I think the simulator is pushing the Mrs laptop a bit!

It does seem easier trying to pinch but it's hard not to yaw at the same time as using the throttle plus the throttle is spring loaded on the xbox controller

Are gearbest always slow delivering? Went for the 7-10 day option and there has been no update on tracking number since 8th January

I've only ever ordered from GB once and they often show stuff as 'in stock' when it isn't really. I've seen plenty of complaints about long delivery times...

After my experience, I stuck with Banggood.

If the sim is a bit much for the computer you're running it on, have a look at FPV Freerider. It copes fine with hardware that isn't supercharged and Joshua Bardwell has a superb series of videos for learning to fly acro with the free version. For the price, it's more than worth paying for the full version and the physics in the program is 'close enough'.

It will be much easier with a real radio in your hands though. Just don't expect to become a Charpu with just a few hours of practise, it's all about muscle memory and that takes time.

Discovered I had the contoller settings all wrong! Loving it now. I've been watching the joshua Bardwell vids very helpful thanks bud.

I spoke to someone on live chat at gearbest and they sent me a screenshot of my parcel apparently being in London on the 14th. Although when I check the tracking number on the yodel website it states there is a delay and the only scan they have is 8th January and it says the parcel is still with sender

Got on fpv freerider and it feels loads better than drl sim! Much more like i imagined it to be. Flying gates within 2 minutes of playing it thanks for the suggestion

Tracking for international parcels coming into the UK sucks. From what I hear, you will often have no idea that it has arrived until you come home and find a red card waiting for you.

I've not tried the other sim that you are talking about, but FPV freerider is pretty good. Nice to hear that you're starting to get into it. What is the radio that you have coming?

Got an fs i6 on the way. Would have ordered a taranis if I had the funds as I know this hobby is going to last a long time

From the moment I realised you.could do more than just go forwards and backwards and do flips on my micro drone i was hooked. I looked my drone up on youtube and saw someone doing banked turns and needed to be able to do it

The FS-i6 isn't a bad starter radio at all. Hopefully you also ordered a USB adapter for it so that you can plug it in to your computer?

If you'd bought a Devo 7e instead, you can connect that directly to your computer via USB without any extra hardware, but not the i6.

Yeah I've had the usb cable sat here for nearly 2 weeks lol. Good ol' amazon. Does the controller.come with a data cable for upgrading firmware? As I don't believe the cable I have will do that from what I've read

Not that I remember, and yes, it is a different cable to the one that makes it look like a pair of gaming joysticks.

Yet another cable to buy!

Well my parcel turned up today so now I feel a bit bad about harassing them. But it hadn't been scanned since 8th Jan!

How similar is fpv freerider to real life? Because I'm absolutely loving it much much easier than the drl sim with an xbox controller

I think the tutorial vid by joshua Bardwell really helped explaining the relationship between yaw and roll too. I wondered why I always rolled to the side when I yaw but it makes sense now I understand the yaw is staying on the same axis and will return to horizon at 360degrees

There you go, Royal Fail wins again!

It's similar to real life. Certainly good enough for you to be a little more prepared when it comes to the real thing.

Absolutely!

As a beginner, all you need is stick time and it doesn't matter if it's a 5" racing quad, 450 ap quad, Tiny Whoop, Simulator, outdoor micro, indoor LOS, blah blah blah. Just get stick time.

An expert may get nothing out of a simulator with an Xbox controller but a beginner absolutely does!
