All F5J USA Tour events follow the full FAI rules, including tape lengths, with only 1 exception: emergency motor restarts allowed in exchange for a zero flight.

Actually he is very close.
A Ford F150 is 227.9 inches in length, which equals 5.78 meters...

So two pick ups equals roughly 11.6 meters...

I am glad the US pilots are getting F5J active!

I was just pulling Gordy's leg about the "40 foot" landing tape and the skegs/varios I am sure the tape is 10m (32.8084 feet) and he was just giving the e-launch guys a hard time

Really looking forward to the first F5J WC's! My long range prediction would be that an EU pilot will win but you never know.....

New tour event posted-F5J in Vegas-May 6-7 2018

A new F5J USA Tour event has been registered for the 2018 season and is posted in the Tour calendar: F5J in Vegas on May 6-7 at Sandy Valley NV (2-day WEST event). This is actually two events back-to-back: 2 days of F3J then 2 days of F5J. You can attend one or both. The F5J portion was well attended last year and promises to be a good and challenging one again in 2018. Basic info posted here, more event details coming.

Its gonna be interesting to see A lot of EU Zero's on the score sheets in 2019!! Well...maybe not ZERO's but 300-450pt rds. We are playing it safe right now in the US Tour events but have no doubt, 15M launches are getting logged in training. A 5 day WC will prove that Low Lite specialists move down the leaderboard and 80M 9:59 50pt landing pilots creep within points of one another alllllllll week. Just my prognostication of what may/might happen

Happy Holidays!!!

Likely F5J Tour Event in Louisville

That's not in California or New Mexico, (there's a river between most of you F5J enthusiasts and us. :-)

Frank Burnoski, Ben Roberto and Robin Meeks from Chicago's Soar Club will be heading down our way with noise machine etc in order to hold a F5J Tour event on our field. Why here? Because its hard for most existing pilots to get to the Chicago area where Soar's field is located. Its a great big sod farm so would be perfect for F5J's hand launch style of soaring. (Plus I want to give our 'area' pilots a chance to try F5J).

We also have a nice site, easy to get to, lots of parking around its perimeter and we've flown there for over 50 years.... and cheap motels.

The TENTATIVE date will be May 19/20. We have to insure the Parks Dept doesn't already have some other plan, our clubmates are available, etc.

As you all should know, by adding another class, something has to give, its a division of the hobby, not an addition. At the moment Dayton has an Unlimited Mixed Launch two day and our own DerbySoar is on either side of that date, and the Columbus (Ohio) club has monthly (very popular) ALES Contest, plus Skye and the boys in Dayton have been daydreaming that F3RES is an actual thing, so have plans for those events each month.

More after we have our club meeting mid Jan.

Gordy, that's great to hear of another possible Tour event. Sounds like you have a nice field picked out. The sooner you submit your online application the sooner we can confirm that the date is clear and available.

Thanks for your interest in hosting an F5J USA Tour event!

Very soon we will be removing the "sticky" status of this thread and will let it drift off into the RCG archives rest home. Replacing it will be our new F5J USA Tour 2018 thread.

Thanks to everyone who supported the first year of the Tour--everyone involved had a blast. Much more coming in 2018. --Chris

Too late now I guess, but I would have preferred to just rename the old thread and keep it always on top, for information.

PS. I see you posted a link to this thread there Chris, so all is well...

Yipes, did F5J enthusiasm die already? Bummer:-(

..... All the excited chatter about the F5J Tour etc seems to have been sucked down to the level of F3RES ;-)

In any case:

I am happy to be announcing the Chi/Lou F5J event in Louisville May 19th and 20th.
(Geez I was hoping the fad would last at least long enough for us to host the event.)

Oh well, we're going to have it anyway. :-)

Frank Burnoski, Ben Roberto and Robin Meeks out of Chicago's Soar Club will be providing first class audio, timing, and scoring just like in the big cities West of the Mississippi.

Our club will provide spittoons etc for pilots comfort, Kentucky style, as well as a pretty nice field, almost walking distance to great BBQ, Steak, Fast Food and low cost motels. (Google Charlie Vettiner Park, Louisville Kentucky)

The field is about 1,000' in two directions, (actually 4 directions if you turn and look back the other way) so plenty of room to set up those 64 foot landing circles.

We're really excited!
More details to follow.

Sounds like a fun contest, hope you have a great turnout! The "chatter" here has died because, well, the 2017 season is over. Try the 2018 thread for more action. Closing this thread...
