My RaceFlight Orca Revolt Spektrum Build

Hello and welcome to my RaceFlight Orca Revolt Spektrum Build Blog Post!

I finally got the Orca frame and couldn't resist building "the RaceFlight quad" (only thing missing is the RF motor, but the new RedBottom S should do fine )

So let's get started! DISCLAIMER... I did a few things (you could call them mistakes) different in the beginning than they are now, best is to look at all the pics first and I also mention those things during the building process in text from ...and I messed up the pics... sorry...

the orca frame, thanks Kalyn for that buying that awesome silver marker :-P

let's add the scews for the stack

screwed them tight

next up the HUBOSD, I know there is some controversy on it but I have 4.. 5... maybe 6 in use and not a single glitch!

I love it!

I made a video on the Revolt Spektrum Stack *here*, super neat how the SPM4649T (T = TLM) works by only using the Tx pad

spongy mounted aka "not too soft" mounted the FC... can move it by pushing it, but tilting the quad won't move it.

I wanted to get this build going so did not wait for the RaceFlight motors but had the new RedBottom S from EMAX which are awesome btw...

and they fit the RF style nicely!

I modded my preproduction BumpBees to RaceFlight ESCs (removed the inputcap) for this build!

those are just the perfect fit^^

let's add some wires... and here comes my first and second mistake... wait for it...

did I mention I love the HUBOSD layout?

I used the 5v pad on the Revolt and not the 5v BEC pad... that means when reconnecting the USB quickly you can power up your ESCs, arming them...

you should do it like this... and notice the ESC signal wire... the one that is actually connected to signal and vice versa now

now let's add FPV gear... that's the HobbyKing 25mW vTx, the Swift with a 2.8mm lens (horrible for my racetrack... forgot to go 2.5 or 2.1) and the Aomway CP antenna (and I recommend you order the vTx with 90 SMA...)

awesome right?

let's add some props... you guys know I am in love with those Hybrid Bull Nose Props! (seriously... IMO Hybrid Bull Nose was the biggest thing 2016 for me)

TATA!!!

Sexy, right?

Just a tad fat (thats AWU with a 1.0Ah 4s Graphene pack)

...and here two pics of the 90 modded vTx

So far, weather permits, I only had a few flights, so nothing to "show off" really, just some DVR footage, nothing fancy^^

DVR: RaceFlight Orca Spektrum Maiden (2 min 21 sec)

So far I can say that I really like it, crashed it a lot, more into trees then high speed for now, but it's holding up nicely!

Thanks for coming by and if you have any question or suggestion please leave them here, thanks!

Haha thanks!

...you aren't by any chance in the possession of an STL file that would protect my huge ESCs?

This one is supposed to be for BumpBee:

This one appears similarly proportioned, so might work:

It really seems heavy to me. My alien which is fat by default weighs 500grams with a 1300mah Graphene. Is the pod so heavy?

It's partially the motors and the baseplate, the pod isn't made out of air but for the benefit of it I think it's okay, sub 30g)

... I did another build with light components a few days ago... Used the toothpick frame and it's with the 1.0Ah lipo just shy of 355g (full size cam with build in vTx, telemetry receiver, revolt, 4in1 esc, cobra 2850kv)

I opened both in 123D Design to cut one side but failed and gave up... will try tomorrow again but so far I like both designs^^

Edit: we had a little snowstorm this morning but when it was over, the sun came out and it was so nice I had to give it a spin!

btw... the same works for the IRC Tramp as well...
