Not sure what "new 9 blade inrunner review" you are referencing but the 9 blade EDF with 3658-1920KV Inrunner that comes in the new T-33 is great.

My mirage 2000 has an outrunner motor and my bae hawk has an inrunner motor both have almost the same kv motors and fan rotor but the outrunner draws less amp and make more thrust than the inrunner .
I have found it's harder and takes more time to balance the fan on the outrunner motors even on my 70mm fans than the inrunner motor as it seems the fans have to be more accurately balance on the out runner motors than the inrunner motors
Guess it's because the inrunner motors are longer and more solid than the outrunner motor

Some specifics would help. I'm assuming you are talking about the current FW Mirage and the current FMS Bae Hawk since they are both 80mm fans. If so, the Mirage has a 1900kv 9 blade outrunner EDF, the Hawk has a 2000kv 12 blade inrunner EDF. Pretty different setups. But, blade count isn't everything since we do not know the pitch of the blades anyway.

The 2nd fan that came with the red one was a 9 blade in-runner. The claim was was it had a higher performance but the reviews here on this thread have been mixed.

EDIT : Looking now the Red version is listed as a 9 blade 3530-1900 out-runner, sorry I was under the impression it was an in-runner. Guess time will tell on the performance.

When the red version first came out, it had the 9 blade outrunner. It just changed to the 12 blade inrunner yesterday. It has never had a 9 blade inrunner.

The 9 blade inrunner setup is brand new and the only plane it is in is T33, and it has gotten rave reviews so far.

Sounds like a good set up, out of 10 edf's the best performing fans I have are in-runners with 9 blade Wemo fans

I have the 1900kv outrunner in my red Avanti. I replaced the stock 9 blade with a 12 blade from Motion. It sounds so much better...it killed the high pitched EDF whine of the motor somehow. Performance might be slightly better.

You read my mind..haha.. I have the 9bl 1920kv Inrunner out of my T-33 & will be installing it into my Avanti .. Hopefully weather permitting next week Iíll try it out..I like the 12bl 1857kv Inrunner performance in the T-33 so itíll stay in it for the time being

The mirage is a fly fly kit with a 1850kv outrunner motor and a 6 blade rotor and run it on a 8 cell lipo and draws 85 amps on 6 cell even less
The bae hawk can't say what make has a 90mm fan with the same 6 blade rotor as the mirage and a 1900kv inrunner motor and draws 80 amps on 6 cell won't even try 8 cell on the inrunner motor it will burn.

Will keep eye on the post to see what best fan setup to install in my freewing Avanti s

It's not the motor making the sound, it's the fan.

The correct part of this statement is the Wemo fans If you ran that fan with an equal outrunner you would see no change in performance but might see a slight drop in amps. Also the outrunners cool much more easily in EDF's because the air is blown threw them as they run. Inrunners are sealed and no air gets inside it is only convection cooling

If that is so why are Edf specialists like ExtremeRc & EffluxRc specifically using Inrunners in their Fan combos????
