Question
Next 48" plane: Extreme Flight Vanquish or Extreme Flight Extra 300 EXP
Hi,
Would like some opinions on which one to buy and how do they compare with each other. Could only buy one right now and have a Eflite Leader 480 NIB that may or may not keep. The question is: which would should I go for? Extreme Flight Vanquish or Extreme Flight Extra 300 EXP Interested in one just to practice some precision flying and begin working on 3D stuff. Opinions from actual owners of both is greatly appreciated. If you have also flown the Leader 480 please chime in. Thanks. |

If your goal was to sport fly or precision hands down the vanquish. But you also want to do some 3D so now the plane for you would be the Extra or Laser. I have flown the leader 480 it's probably one of the better flying E- flight planes. But it needs to be a bit nose heavy to track well. This in turn makes it fly inverted terrible. So for someone that just wants to do loops and rolls the 480 is a good plane. But slow rolls require a lot of work to pull off nicely. You would be making the rite decision to sell it and get one of the Extreme Flight planes. I'm charging my bateries to take my EF 48 extra out as I am typing this.

For learning 3D your best bet is going to be the Edge EXP. That plane is stable and forgiving, but it also does really sweet 3D. The Extra is a better plane all the way around, but the Edge is more stable in post stall flight.
Another option is the 3DHS Extra SHP. It does good precision but it's also super light, super stable and super forgiving. |

Gregertman,
I like your idea. I will sell the Leader 480. I think I will just buy both if I do. Which servos are you guys using? Any thoughts on this motor? SunnySky X2820 KV800 Brushless Motor http://www.buddyrc.com/power-system/...v-reviews.html Thanks. |

I have not used that sunny sky motor myself. But I have read on these forums that there is quite a few people that love that motor. So if you want to give that motor a try I say go for it. The reputation of that motor is good. As far as servos go I like the KST DS215mg. They are quick , strong , precise, and reasonably priced. (Aloft hobbies is where I get them from) If you are getting 2 planes I would get the 48 edge for the 3D fun and the vanquish for the precision / patern flying.

The long answer is here: http://docaustinextreme.blogspot.com...ct-48-exp.html Quote:
However, the new 52" Extra EXP is sort of breaking the mold and it flies very nearly as well as the 60" Extra. It's less expensive, easier to transport in a small car and sort of offers the best of both of the other sizes.

I don't know much about the others, but the Extra, Edge, or Laser seem worthy to transition from sport to extreme ... with just the movement of the CG and the throws ...
I am no 3d pilot, but my 48 inch laser on 50% throws and neutral cg. was a dream to fly... and exponential is recommended ... @ 100% throw and 70% expo ... it is a wild one ... full of anything your thumbs can handle ... I love my EF Laser 48 incher ... it is currently recovering from missing the runway and landing in the rocks off on the side ... wheel pants and rocks don't play well together. |

OK, this is an old thread but let me share my thoughts because I have both aircraft and like everybody else equipped with a bellybutton, I have an opinion. For 3D, the Extra, no question. For sport, and/or flying precision maneuvers, the Vanquish . . . duh!
Look, these are two totally different airplanes. Kind of like the difference between a car and a truck - no, not comparing one to a truck - just observing they've been created for totally different purposes the way one carries a sheet of plywood with ease and other makes it a chore while either will go to the grocery store. Servo wise, my DS75 is lovely for either model, with maybe the DS105 being a better choice for the well heeled (both are popular servos with SPA pilots). Finally, I use an 850mAh pack instead of relying on a BEC for two reasons. First, because it delivers 10A of clean current (no ripple or other noise whatsoever) and second, because an ESC failure doesn't result in losing a model to a crash. Basically, for peace of mind and performance, divorcing control-power from propulsion-power is more important to me than the effect of the added 2.5 ounces. Pilots who feel this degrades their model's performance to unacceptable levels . . . whatever, I'm not here to argue. And with both, I do not use a switch. I choose instead to plug in directly (to short extensions on the receiver) because it's so easy with the upper fuselage exposed when exchanging propulsion packs. This, to eliminate an added point of failure. 100oz-in micro servo - https://www.promodeler.com/DS75CLHV 150oz-in micro servo - https://www.promodeler.com/DS105CLHV 850mAh 2S-pack - https://www.promodeler.com/LiIon-2S850-10C |

Reason: . . . to explain why I also ditch the switch!

Thanks. No sense wasting a perfectly goof thread, right?
I never allow myself to be satisfied with an article or video. There's just no room for that when you want to produce the best bits you can can, but on this one, I'm going to allow myself to be mildly pleased. I threw the soundtrack on and every last bit matched. It's really uncanny to realize I did the flight, edited down the video, and when I threw the soundtrack on everything lined up perfectly. However, if you don't crank the sound, you'll miss the point. It's only 3 minutes, but it's 3 minutes of Velox bad-assery, or even ass-baddery .... take your pick.
