Build one, it only takes a few bits of balsa to build something that will fly much better/easier than a cox PT19.

Lots of info on this site on how to go about this.....

Maybe build a balsa version til one comes up on craigslist. That's where I eventually got mine, used, under $100. I bought it to fly in the annual international fly-it-if-you-got-it but was too busy to be able to get out...

Heres another approach. Offer to buy the one off your grandsons friend, or tell him you are willing to replace it with another plane of equal or greater value. Who knows, he may be ready to move up to a larger plane and just needs a reason or financial help to do so. Its worth a shot. ..Gene

Black Hawk Models has a balsa knock off of the Cox PT19 trainer. You have to build it but it's supposed to be a good trainer

I built this one using blue and yellow coroplast. It flies good on a black widow Cox .049

You can download complete plans and drawings from this site:

http://www.balsabeavers.com/

Then navigate to "Information" Then "Plans" and you'll find what you need. Its really simple to build and flies better than the original Cox plastic plane.

Go here, order it, have it in a couple of days:

Hmm? That doesn't look right, after all. For some reason, that seems to be the "big" Skyray page at SIG.

A nice PT-19 has value and making a wood flyer would be better. I found a body with pilots all parts minus wing. I asked around and received a wing free from friend but it was warped and semi melted. former owner let model sit in hot car. Ladder found a good wing. I will not fly it just display item. Many local RC clubs have contests and swap meets. Look around and never know what you will find. I found new Spot. Camel bi-plane by Cox for $15.00. Another time found Cox Stuka new but missing little props on wing and bomb. I made props from small toy airplanes and found couple of bombs local. Point look around or post add on forum. You may get lucky.

Does anyone know if the 'New' Black Hawk Models is still in existence? These posts from last year give a URL that no longer works.

Let's hope production has continued!

Google comes up with this:

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/planes/c...ne-models.html

The top one is the balsa wood version of a PT-19 trainer that is the major component of this forum thread,

The new people seem to be using Facebook instead of a website oin the 'Net:

I have an original cox pt 19 I was thinking of putting on Ebay. It is in very good condition. I don't think it has ever been flown. I bought it on a estate sale a few months ago. The only thing is it needs the spring on the needle valve. I had a bunch of them as a kid. I got $100.00 in it. I'd sell it for that. PM me if your interested. But as the other guys have said there are a lot of other options. The PT 19 from cox is a great trainer but a lot of the value is because they are vintage.

There have been some crazy prices for these on eBay, lately - as in outrageously high - so I would go there if it has the box, is in good shape. If it is used $125'ish seems to be the high mark. If unused significantly higher. That is, if it is in the box.

Yes - I saw those on HobbyKing also, but that is just some of the Black Hawk models being sold by Hobby King. I wanted to know if Black Hawk is still in business and what they have to offer. At this point, I have to assume that they have shut down.
