Build Log
Bridi Sun Fli IV build
Started!
This will be a scratch built Joe Bridi Sun Fli IV, built from plans downloaded from Outerzone. It will have foam wings, because of the special tapered airfoil. I will use an OS 65 AX engine, and build the stabs from sheet balsa to offset the extra weight. I will build it light and to original measurements, but make some modifications here and there. For instance, I will not make a hollow top block but instead use square stock and add 3 mm top sheeting. I got a total of four identical plan sheets, because the printer misread my order. I'm very happy about that though, because I can cut apart two of them for outlines. Items such as the engine bearers need to be cut out, but then you have no outline from which to cut the top deck so you do need at least three plans. The fourth I will put up on the wall while I build. I have just started cutting parts, so bear with me as this will take a while. |

PS: There is one for sale here: http://www.ebay.de/itm/291923849418?ul_noapp=true
I have already started to build mine, but this one looks like a good deal. Sadly it does not ship outside U.S. |

Not very fast but the kit is nice for a first build!

Thanks Walter, I have looked over so many old threads that have been very helpful and a few of those were yours and Jon's! I look at the prints and then think of where I can find a pic that will show it. Then it's back to actual building! We also have a great group of builders in our local flying club. They are all great to offer assistance and to show me what to do if I get lost.

Awesome! The Bluejay kits are very good. I see they're using the "alternate" plans as opposed to my RCM version. The engine bearers, top deck and canopy are different. What does the Bluejay instructions say about the bent sheeting on the bottom of the wing?

Jon, I believe line 6 of the instructions will give you an idea of the intent.

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=2750473 it shows two different plans. The plan with the long canopy has a small view of the "bent" underside of the wing, due to the progressively thinner airfoil, which follows naturally when building upside down with a flat top spar. PS: Just noticed another difference between the two versions - RCM version has the stab almost 1/2 inch lower. |
