Dean's Marine DUKW

Is anyone else working on one of these 1/10 scale kits? What problems did you have? What other operating features did you include (lights, horn, etc)?

Bob;

I found this 'thing' in Green Cove Springs while working- do you know what it is?
I have been told it was a duck, but it doesn't fit the pictures and dementions that they send......

Well, since the stencil says its a LARC, a google came up with this:

Lighter Amphibian Resupply Cargo

The LARC was a late replacement vehicle (1960's era) for the DUKW. LARC's and their bigger brothers, BARC's had Diesel power, 4 wheels, and aluminum hulls. The Fire Departments of Tampa & Miami FL, and Milwaukee, WI, have or had LARC's converted to fireboats. DUKW's had steel hulls, 6 wheel drive and gasoline engines.

Hey guess what? I just read on another page that the LARC LX (pictured above by mastrsn) is actually a BARC. The BARC's were renamed LARC LX.

Great pictures, Bob. Keep 'em coming!

If you're visiting the Boston area you can take a tour of the city in a DUKW. I've done it twice and the first time I got to drive it (sail it?) in the Charles River. They have anphibious tours in Glouscter (sp?) too that are LARCs. You could probably do both in one day.

Here's some pictures of my DUKW model, it will be the USCG version. I used a piece of 1/8 inch aircraft plywood for the cargo deck. Ram Products lighting systems are being installed, both navigation lights and road lights. The model is about 60% complete. Four channel radio is installed: steering (rudder & front wheels operate together); ESC for the wheel drive; a second ESC for the propellor drive; and an electronic switch for the two light systems.
