Build Log
Imperial Star Destroyer from Arkansas [SG-Ideas kit]
"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away......."
With all the Star Wars stuff going on, thought I would pause on my P-39 build, and jump into the Imperial Star Destroyer by SG-Ideas: http://www.sg-ideas.com/sg-ideas_007.htm This is a delta wing, electric pusher prop, foam model. The Star Destroyer has a wingspan of 24-1/2 inches, and is 44 inches long. |

And, the pic shows what you get: a shipment of foam!
At first, it was a little overwhelming (for me), but the Star Destroyer is well designed. It took 3 to 4 weeks for the SD [Star Destroyer] to arrive. |

At this time, there are no "official" instructions. But there is a thread that lists the instructions here on RC Groups:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=887870 Perhaps this thread can also be of help. EDIT: Here are the Basic Instructions, as listed in the other thread: 1. Glue the wing halves. 2. Add in Carbon Tube - Really helps when you doink it nose first into the ground 3. Skin the whole plane - Trim and test fit everything - 3M Super 77 spray - let dry for about 10 min, then smooth the skins on. Be very careful of wrinkles - Top coat of Minwax Polycrilic 4. Glue Upper Vertical Fuse 5. Add the upper horizontal pieces on the top of fuse 6. Add in 1 1/2" Dia plywood motor mount/firewall (Pre-drill it for your motor) 7.. Add the lower vertical 8. Add the lower horizontal pieces 9. Add the Tower verticals 10. Glue the Bridge in. 11. Add controls. |

Wings
Here are the 'wings", which are the wedge shape of the Star Destroyer.
The orange stick is 1 foot (12 inches) long. |

Upper & Lower Deck
There is also an Upper Deck and Lower Deck. Hard to see them in place, but this pic helps you identify them.

Bridge
Here is the Tower & Bridge. I also held them together for you to get an idea of the shape.

Glue
SG-Ideas recommends using Gorilla Glue for the construction of the model. I have previously built the SG Ideas "Enterprise D" using Gorilla glue, and I have been impressed with Gorilla glue.
Note the water in the red cup. Per the Gorilla glue instructions, I brush on some water before applying glue. It does not take much water, and it doesn't require much glue, either. I use wax paper to keep the glue from sticking to my workbench, or from gluing the "weight books" to the model. Gorilla glue expands into the foam, making a strong bond. |

And so, we begin........
First, let's glue the front & back wing halves together. My procedure went something like this:

Here is what you get after the Gorilla glue drys: front and back wing sections of the Star Destroyer.
Note how the glue (yellow, or tan) has spread out/expanded. |

I have decided to add the front top fuselage to the front delta wing.
Also showing how I am applying the Gorilla glue (has a look like honey). Bit of a challenge to get things in place to glue the top fuse. See books to hold stuff in place, with a few weights. |
