Shorts S45 Mk.IV Solent build from Ivan Pettigrew plans


Build log for Shorts S45 Mk.IV Solent based on Ivan Pettigrew plans.

There are many builds of this beautiful giant out there.
I am starting the 100th build (correct me if I am wrong) and will document everything here on this thread as I go along.

Specs:

Scale: 1/14.5
Span: 99"
Wing area: 1,200 sq. ins.
Length: 73.5"
Target Weight: 124 oz. +/-
Wingloading: 14.9 oz./sq.ft.

Electronics:

4 x +/- 1000 KV brushless motors TBD
4 x 25 A ESCs TBD
2 x 2S-5000 MAh or 2 x 3S, TBD
4 x 9'' adjsutable pitch vario props
Mostly balsa construction as per plan instruction, some fiberglass lamination

Bart, I also viewed your Empire videos many times, they are phenomenal, beautiful gentle machine,
How is your Goose doing? That is also a stunning aircraft.
I was tempted to build one with the laser cut kits but they are way too expensive in my taste. I love Grumman planes though, Goose, Mallard, Widgeon, Albatros, they are all gorgeous. They are always in the back of my mind and my next build will probably be a Turbo Mallard if I survive the Solent!

Well it's not an EDF but I can tell you're already a fanatic of Ivan's plans, which it is easy to become one I know. Good luck on the build, I've added this thread to the Ivan sticky. You're in for a long journey but I bet not as long as some people!
