Why I'm NEVER likely to use gasoline as a model fuel...
Dear Fellow RC-Groupers:
The PIPE Here...and after just over a decade here at RCG, I felt it was time to place up the first "blog entry", even though I last flew RC aircraft some 13 YEARS ago, I still VERY much want to get back to RC flying with my local AMA-chartered flying club in Halifax, MA, which IS going to take getting back to WORK again in the future to afford it all! As I was quite surprised to find out a couple of years ago, the mid-1980s hernia operation I had that's been causing me no end of upper left leg PAIN ever since if I'm ever "on my feet" without moving for too long a time, due to a surgical mistake during my last hernia procedure in 1985, is a VALID disability, making me eligible for Federal SSI benefits and likewise, very similar Massachusetts-specific, state-level "SSP" benefits to help out while I'm still unemployed. As I'm still living here at home with my newly-octogenarian mother, she does need someone to help take care of her here at home (get meals, doctor-visit transportation, etc) as a caretaker, and I get a roof over my head in return. Getting back to work, though, IS going to take re-education at a Boston area community college that has good adaptability to disabled students' needs. I've already completed the first of five "distance learning" courses towards a new CAD drafting certificate that the 2-year college provides, but I'm going to HAVE to, due to my caretaker status, only take ONE course a semester until I've passed all five courses to earn the certificate. When my mother DOES have to eventually go into a managed care facility for the rest of her days, through, I DO qualify for public housing accommodations here in Massachusetts from my disability - and when THAT time comes, that's where the title of this first entry starts to come into play! So far in the RC flying hobby, I've NEVER used any model engines that required gasoline (or "Gasp-o-lene", Gary Cee's favorite nickname for that noxious fuel that most all of our cars need) to run on, even before I permanently swore off ever flying with, running or even OWNING two-stroke model engines of any type ever again from February 1985 onwards - it's been strictly four-strokers ever since, and I'm NOT ever going back to those messy, two-stroke "noisey mills" !! Where I'll HAVE to live in public housing when my mom's time at home has to end, that's not the form of "where to live" that would ever tolerate an aeromodeler who used ANY gasoline-fueled engines still enjoying their hobby THAT way living there, as there's NO safe (AND secure) place to properly store the gasoline in such an accommodation. So, for yours truly, sticking strictly with methanol-base model fuels...which ARE both glow AND spark-ignition friendly fuels for my four-strokers, ARE going to have to be what I'll be going with, when I can get back to the RC flying hobby, when a new job and possibly a new "place to live" come into my life. |
