Gyro Bee Build

I need a replacement for my Gyro Bee that I killed a few months ago.
I'm trying very hard to build this one simple, cheap and lightish.
Target weight is 30oz.
Build Specs:
Bee II cores
Std Hitec servos: HS 425's.
4 cell AA Sanyo Flat pack.
upgrade to .25" Fiberglass rod to replace the std carbon tube spar
.080" fg rod arched I-beam in stock location.
5mm x 1mm carbon ribbon sub TE spar.
Strapping tape: approx 2 full layers of standard 3" Bee tape.
thinned goop
spackle used sparingly
Oversized 2mm coroplast winglets
balsa wingtips (not winglets)
Orange Gyro/Rec'r

Wing was 18oz before strapping tape.
2 full layers of strapping tape: 24.3oz.
Here's a pic of the bottom, looks better in person.

Bottom is covered with Hobby King covering. I'm not a fan of this strapping tape, it wrinkles when ironed . I think this build will keep me from using it for awhile.

Sidetracked by a sloping adventure to Castle Peak/Castle Ridge.
The top of the wing is covered with solid blue HK covering, I'm going to add a fluoro red Monokote stripe to each wing for orientation.

Added a couple of stripes on top.
Elevons are up next. I'll be using different balsa stock (1-1/2" x 1/4") and will bag with fiberglass.

Bagging a couple sets of elevons. Hoping these turn out on the light side.

For a comparison, I decided to bag a set of elevons using the supplied thinner balsa.

Double-checking gyro settings.

Winglets installed.
Getting heavy and it will need nose weight.

Gyro Bee was maidened on Monday. Only needed a few clicks of down trim. Really happy with the way it flew but I did mess around with the gains. I got it to oscillate a bit but still flew excellent.
This one's a winner.

Decided to replace the Orange with a Lemon....gyro that is...

Setup on the gyro was almost the same as the Orange. The only change needed was to flip a servo from reverse to normal on the TX.
The gyro on/off is on ch 5 instead of ch 6.
Adjustable gain is on ch 8 so that's not available with my cheapo DX6i.
Unfortunately, test flights will have to wait until next month.
The manual for the lemon, found here is excellent.
