Higgins Rat

This one is for Sandd. A Rat. V-tail Rodent-like sloper with a canopy.

Betty doesn't mind being this close to a Rat.

Lol,

Ya! Nice Rodent. Oops... Rat!

Thx!

That plane grows on ya
The V tail versions of his plane look especially mean.

You guys have posted some nice picks of them. I must say most of the ones I have seen in person had had the crap beat out of them

I called Vic and got the low down on John and Pt Ferman days.

Says he's a great guy.

Hasn't seen him at PF for the last 8 years.

Yes- John built this Alias as detailed in Sailhigh's post. I can draw the tails out and scan them for you, as they have some sweep that isn't obvious unless you look at it from two or three directions.

The tails might be slightly undersized for the Alias, as it will nose-slice if you get heavy handed with it. I fly with really low rates and try to be as fast/smooth as I can. Adam's brother extended the tailboom on his with a coil of mylar and laid up more tailboom inside the mylar- then glued his tail on.

Reinforce the following areas: Wing saddle/fillet, and the area going from the fillet to the rear corners of the canopy. This are the areas you'll see cracks form first. Try to land slightly nose high to slide it in. They land fairly easy if you're used to this type of plane- the downside is they can be a bit tip-stally on launch, so get some airspeed up asap. Way back when Surfimp was in his Fauxdent phase he wondered aloud "why do those NorCal guys tend to paint their H-planes in primer?" "Cause we're usually fixing it...that's why"

I think that breakdown of the Higgins line was mine, now that I think about it.

I bought that plane in 1996 or so from Sean, and it's still useable- that's pretty impressive.

Good to see the old girl still flying Tony. Rounding off those sharp leading edges might provide tons of benefits! That was my comment to John. To some that's blasphemy!

I did sharpen the nose, if the scale police are checking.

The white Alias sitting on the box isn't mine- found the pic online somewhere.
