My First Lipo, Need Help, Whats with the two wires? Photo Attached for reference

Hi there,

I recently bought my first lipo and charger (picture attached).

My question is this, whats the second wire for, or with Lipo's, do you not just charge straight into the normal connector?

The charger has a couple of standard connectors.

Can anyone tell me what is supposed to go where before I set myself on fire?

Also, the charge can charge as small as 0.5 amps, everywhere i read you should charge as slowly as possible.

The lipo is 11.1v 1900mah, wont that take days to charge at .5 amps?

Cheers
Rob

Did you buy that LiPo for a very specific application? I don't recognize the connectors. If your charger has matching connectors, charge on the connector with the heavier gauge wire. Charging at .5 amps (500mah) will take about 4 hours if the batt is discharged to a high degree. You can safely charge at up to 1C, or in your case 1.9 amps/1900mah.

No, its just the connector the lipo came with, which I will have to change to fit the connector I have on the plane.

Thanks

How about a picture of the actual charger and its connections/connectors?

Are the charger and the pack som sort of matched set?

Any instructions with the pack and charger and what do they say?

The "primary" connector is a Molex / Tamiya / Kyosho variation used in a few scant applications. (What country are you in?) The "monitoring/balancing" connector looks similiar to the PolyQuest connector available from www.aircraft-world.com which appears to be down right now. As far as charge rates, what sarge said ... it's somewhat a matter of how gentle you want to be to them.

Just got the site, check:

When you change that connector, cut one wire, solder the new connector to it, then cut the other wire and solder the other wire.

As in, cut red wire, solder red from battery and red from new connector.

Then, black and black.

That way, there is no chance of shorting the battery out and having it go thermal on you.

This should help with the charger; https://www.rcgroups.com/links/index.php?id=4535

Change the main connector for sure though. The Molex plugs are lousy.
