Kicking around picking this thing up... I REALLY wanted the Rare Bear but its been gone for awhile. I suppose stripping the covering off this one, modding the canopy and then fiberglassing it or re-covering it with Monokote wouldn't be too much extra work. Plus then it'd be way stronger. Or even just painting the vinyl covering...
Would be probably going with something like a "50cc" Rotomax and a 12S setup with a YEP ESC. Gots me thinking of making this a project... |

Scotty
I will be going with 12s on the nose . Just started to toy with the VQ Bearcat because I am still working on my CMP Zero . The green light indicates the throttle is now active. The light is a push button feature, red = power but safe mode , green = power and prop active. The Bearcat will allow for 12S access from inside the model , unlike the zero and the hatch that was added to the cowl. |

Well I just found out I can get the Rare Bear special ordered still by a German company and it winds up being about $700 shipped.
Would def be a sick 12S setup. Wife has already said she will buy me a plane for the Bday (3 weeks) but the price was a bit less lol. Still... Then again if I want a racer the Phoenix 30cc Strega is $359 plus discount and I can do easy pay lol. |

CMP Zero
hey LDM, can I ask you where you got a CMP Zero? I have been looking for one for a long time. Had one once but it went away and I would sure like to have another one.
Thanks Ron |

Tbth I'll probably get the Strega... Cannot justify paying the $$$ for the VQ when the Strega is the price it is and also the bigger CY is similar price. I am very curious to the top cowl width of the Strega. If a DLA 64cc inline twin could fit in there... As far as the Bearcat... Seems like the Saito 60cc with all the aftermarket fixes done is the only correct ticket for fuel. |

So I wound up actually getting a CMP 1.20 Super Chipmunk all the way over here from a member on here undamaged. Thing looks sweet AF, absolutely no way for easy electric access on this sucker unless I permanently mounted some A123 batteries in it with external charge ports and then I would have to bring my generator every time. That is an idea tho... Most likely I will stick a 26cc RCGF in it with a Pitts muffler, Bjorn ring and a smoke system. Want to do this thing justice.

Hi all
Happy Holiday ! I am pretty far along with my Cat and I am noticing things not mentioned in this thread. I typically do not follow plans and really dont need them because of kit building experience. On this model I looked at the pics of the servo installation and followed them without thinking and sure enough my elevator servos ended up like an Aileron with opposite movement. Easy enough to fix but then I realized the supporting pushrod tubes would be at extreme angles with the servos in stock position. I made two modifications, increased the right side servo box and moved the servos outward ( right ) when looking at the model front to back. Then I moved both push rods supports so that the rods are in a straight position with virtually zero redirection. This allows for zero stress on the servo when the push rod is connected. I am just wondering why or what I did wrong because none mentioned this is any of their assembly methods, again I must have done something wrong but my end result was great in my book. My rods are in, re-supported with added balsa, zero flex but it was another 30 mins of assembly that I would loved to skip lol ! On another note, I upgraded all of my control horns to HD Dubro steel pin type horns and trashed the stock plastic versions. |
