To get this thread started here are some pictures of Dick Andersen's PT-17 which is powered by a Himaxx 2015-4100 brushless motor in the GWS box that came with the plane. Dick is in the last picture. It is a very nice performer.

Here's my E-Starter. It looks like any other E-Starter except it has no stickers or color (yet) so I posted a long distance shot (the little white dot in the middle is the plane.

Weighs 360 g and flies beautifully with flight times of 30-40 minutes!

EDIT:
Rewound motor flies for 27 minutes with more power than before.

CD-ROM motor in direct drive with a 9070 prop
Castle Creations Phoenix 10 ESC
E-Tec 1200 2S1P battery
Hitec micro receiver
Waypoint 6 g and Tower Hobbies 19 g servos

Here's my Himax 2025-4200, Phoenix 25 ESC, Li-po P-51, ready for maiden flight tomorrow.

Edit: Just got back from maiden flight. Whoa!!! With brushless power, it just went straight up and kept on going after hand-launch. I went with hand launch because I had epoxy-ed the rudder and only use elevator and aerilon control. Flew great but I'm going to remove the landing gear today because it flipped over twice on landing . I give this plane 4 out of 4 stars !!

My Spitfire:

Motor: Typhoon 6/3D
ESC: Tsunami 10
Prop: 7x4 APC
Battery: 3s1p Kokam 1500

This plane flies wonderfully on this setup and gets at least 20-25 minutes of flight time. The outrunner is quiet and gives it a scale feel in the sky. There's enough power to get out of trouble but it doesn't fly faster than it "should". I honestly couldn't be happier with this airplane and I plan to have her flying for a long time. I just love looking at that perfect wing in long, banking turns.

This is my Spitfire. It's equipted with a 350d motor and JR electronics. It flys pretty descently. What I really like is that if you get it going fast enough in a dive it makes a wistle-like noise like a Ju-87 Stuka when it's in a dive. For those of you who have a Spifire try this sometime. It's really nice.

High Performance E-Starter

Here are some pics of my beefed-up E-starter. Took it for the maiden flight today and flew great. She is a tad tail heavy but I will add a little weight to level her out. I glassed the wing, rudder and elevator, but left the body unglassed to limit the extra weight. I used those GWS website stickers that came with the plane for the markings. It looked too plain with just the red tips and bottom wing pattern.

Specs
E-flight 370 brushless motor (with GWS 300C gearbox)
EP-1170 GWS Prop
Kokam 11.1V Li-po
weight (with battery) 1.4 lbs
3 channel (minus the rudder)

P51-Vertical...

Yes I think the Himax 2025-5300 and 3s lipos would work fine. If you haven't purchased themotor yet consider the 4200 model. I'm running that on a 16 oz Formosa with Himax gb 6.6 gears (D) and an 11-7 APC prop. It pulls about 10-12 amps and I get about 14 minutes out of the 1500 Kokam with mixed flying. Vertical is endless!! Out of sight....

I think the 5300 is a hotter wind....will run more amps...maybe run a little hotter..and certainly turn More RPM's...Use one of the motor calcs and run the numbers....

But geared and propped right....anything will work...
