Much better with this combo

Hi there,

Starting a new project

I've come up with plans in Sketchup based on 3-views for the Hawker Sea Fury and overlapping pictures of the Critical Mass (find plans and capture below).

The specs will be as follows:

Wingspan: 1200mm (approx 1100mm after clipping the wings)
Weight: 1.2kg
Motor: NTM 900Kv
Prop: 10x8 4 blader
ESC: 70A
Battery: 4S 2200mAh

I've cut and glued the main sections for the fuselage, the cowl and the middle section of the wing.
Photos below.

NOTE: I realised I it cut the fuselage in 3 sections only, as opposed to using all the formers in the plan. I finally did it using only 4 formers as templates: F2b, F10, F13 and F16. That made the fuselage a lot better with less joints.
Similarly, I built the cowl with only 3 formers: F0, F1 and F2a.

Here's some more progress.
Installed all the internal trays/formers/snakes for servos and pushrods before gluing the two halves together.
Also cut battery hatch and finished cowl.
Looking good.

I got the wing done now. Sorry forgot to take photos of the parts but it is basically 4 sections and a spar holding them together.

Cool !

You cut a couple of trapezoidal wing pannels then sanded them until you reached the good shape ?

That plane will be lovely ... :-)

Here are a couple of interesting drawings for the paint scheme :

Basically yes.
I cut the wing tips longer than needed and used a cardboard template for the airfoil. Then i cut them to shape and finally sanded for good finish.

I used this drawings to come up with the plans

Which NTM 900Kv motor are you planning on using? The 300 watt one?

LOL...

I used to have that motor on my deceased Gee Bee Z swinging a 12x6 prop and it had a lot of grunt... I'm looking forward to the Critical Mass!

Over the last year I've turned my garage into a workshop and I've just started working with a hot wire cutter. My plan all along was to do a couple of easier/simpler builds to learn on, then try to tackle your F4U. However, now I'm thinking this could be my horse!
