Hi in the process of repairing one of the earliest? JHH Skyray Anyone has the recommended cg for this bird? In another thread some mentioned 25-28% of the chord from the LE

Temperarily installed 5 blade 70mm fan with Turnigy 28xx 2100kv motor, my goto entry level 6s 70mm fan, ~40 Amp at 22 V. Might try 6s 64mm fan as the exhaust is only 60mm, too small for multiblade 70mm fans but perfect for 6s 64mm 11/12blade fan.

Now working on the nose retract and cockpit, using a Freewing Aa-10 (64mm?) canopy

Is that the one Chris just sold...Good score
I will check mine and get back to you for the CG..mine is a bit nose heavy as I can slide the battery back with the orig intake design

Yes guess Chris is busy moving/driving to TN now....

Do you think the cheater hole will help? I cut out a 1 x 1 inch square hole to place my 40-50A ESC, right in front of the fan.

The intake is 1.8x1.8x2 inch triangle, calculated area is ~2000 mm^2 for the twin intake. FSA for a typical 70mm fan with 28mm motor mount is over 3200 mm^2. Am I mistaken somewhere, as the intake area is much smaller than the FSA, meaning the fan is not getting enough air?

This might turn out as heavy bird with small wingspan (still good wing area though)

I dont know if a cheater is needed..mine gets off the ground pretty good. I am at about 750 to 800 watts on a Eflite fan. Also about 4.3 lbs with battery.

Maidened the Skyray with mockup cockpit. CG is about ~25% of the chord (wing fuse joint), 2-3 inch forward from the main leg. Servos are the 12 g metal servo (Corona 939 MG).

6s 2200mah 40C pack with 2100kv 5 blade fan, ~900 Watts, ~ 1 kg thrust, auw 1.55 kg (~3.5 lb). She is pretty quick, no bad habit other than prone to rollover when banking angle exceed certain value (where gyro would help)
