P 51 mustang

The Mustang in the Spitfire must have been to the greatest aircraft of World War II since they were so well now and it didn't matter if you were actually flying one but if you had a girl back home and you wanted to send you a picture you stood in front of a Mustang and send it to her same thing for the Spitfire even though I think the Hawker hurricane probably turn faster than shot more planes down

Cheers

Interesting.
I wonder: was it made with the tall fin in 1945, or was it a modification from its days with NACA?

Probably a P-51H. It was a redesign, and among other changes the tail was taller. The H model was not an upgrade, it was a redesign, and most parts weren't common to earlier versions of the Mustang.

Is that an A-36, or a P-51A? I don't know how to tell the difference from this photo. I know the P-51 didn't have dive brakes, but am unsure of other easily identified differences between them.

Nope. Except for the tall fin, it has P-51D shapes: nose, doghouse. Other photos of NL51YZ show that it has the P-51D wing.

This one, a Mustang I airframe, was spotted in England 1942.
Fitted with RR Merlin for early trials. For NAA's production P-51B, the wing got lowered 3".

Not trying to "out do" anyone. Just thought somebody might enjoy a seeing some of my collected Mustang photos . Since the current trend is to go "quasi military", I thought I'd counter with stunning civil livery. The order is , to best of my ability, oldest to youngest, beginning in 1946+/-, running to 1990.
Color first.
BTW-smaller pic at top 2nd column was taken by me,1971. I used to go out and just look at this aircraft. Was owned by legendary pilot, Bob Love. General access to San Jose Municipal(CA) airport was restricted, soon after. Sad, because I literally grew up there and at Reid's.

Nice shots thank you for posting. When we were racing reno as the madd maxx air racing team we tried to buy the p51 at the san jose airport
Even though it had been parked on the tarmac for twenty years in the same spot he would not take 600k. I had allready named her Maxamillon but it wasnt ment to be. Thanks again for the photos please post more.

My father purchased a P51 from the goverment in 1963 for 1500 dollars.
