Night Walrus vs. Night Radian?
(Sorry, that must get asked a lot....) |

Night walrus. I dont own the night radian but I own a radian and the walrus is by far the better plane. Just my .02 worth but then again we are in the night walrus thread so...

I saw the Wingnut Tech light controller for the Radian and thought that looked really interesting too. For anyone buying the Walrus, I will say to not give up on getting the wires stuffed back into the fuselage. I was just patient and finally got them mostly out of the way of the battery and servos. My only real issue has been the cockpit coming off in flight a couple of times. I didn't seem to keep it from flying though and I was able to land easily and put it back on. I need to look at how the magnets line up I guess. Overall I'm pretty happy with the Walrus and I am getting some really smooth landings out of it, so that's fun. |

What's the biggest battery that can fit? I seem to have read that even a 2200 3S is a bit tight?
Also, how well can this plane be broken down and transported - preferably in its own box? |

2200 is tight but fine, once i flipped my servo arms it slips in no problem. its not a great plane to break down, i would not want to pull the wings of routinely based on how they attached and the space to deal with the servo cables and i don't think it would ever go back into the box once you glue the vertical and horizontal stabs onto the fuse. the box was quite small for the final model size.

OK, thanks..
Maybe on a %20 sale then... Or maybe I should just put an LED kit on my Easystar II ha ha... |

Why isn't this plane more popular? Is it because night flying isn't generally, or is the plane just lame? I'm still feeling quite tempted. Just to mess around with at the local sports field, more at dusk than really at night...

This plane is a great night flier, the LEDs are very bright and give clear indication between left & right, fwd & back. My only issue was determining top/bottom when flying in full darkness. Not that I'm flying inverted, it is just difficult to determine if the plane is turning slightly away from me or slightly towards me when flying across the field from side to side. (This is an issue I find common with all of my night flying planes, and may just be my eyesight & perception, this is not a problem with Wally alone.) For dusk flying, this is less of a concern as orientation is a little easier to determine.
The LEDs pull a fair amount of current, around 3A as I recall. It is a little heavy for a glider, but does glide ok and fly nicely. Not like there's much thermal activity even with a full moon, but you can take it out on windy or warm thermaly days for some nice glider style fun, too. The nose compartment gets very tight with a battery and receiver stuffed in there, some (myself included) have cut a hole in the fuse under the wings for the receiver, then patched it up and let it rip. I wanted a full wing setup, so individual plugs instead of Y-cables meant using a larger receiver. The battery can slide back to the point where it may interfere with the servos or throw balance off, a simple block can be made with ply or 3D printing to prevent that. |

I purchased 2 of them several months ago when they were on sale. They are still in their boxes awaiting assembly.
Too many planes, not enough time Even less time now coronavirus has broken out. Working longer hours & weekends. Easter holidays have been cancelled etc etc.... |

What do you do? I'm stuck at home with "home office", but as a teacher not too much I can do.. I live in the country so have been getting in some great flying time. Kind of cold and yucky out today though...
Mine should be arriving this week... We'll see how it goes... |

Looking forward to next Autumn when hopefully coronavirus has died down, and we get some pleasant dark evenings so my daughter and I can go and fly this plane together (hence the reason I got 2 of them). Seems like a pipe dream at the moment though. |
