Hi everyone.
I've just joined the club and bought the WLtoys 10428a. I've also bought the k949 alloy upgrade parts set, and some Austar alloy wheels from Gearbest. I'm planning to mod the panels on the body, and do the same "fastback" mod as done on the Axial Wraith, which should look very cool. I'm also going to get a Twin Hammers roll cage and make a custom body. Exciting! Can I ask you guys - from reading this thread, is it true that apart from electronics and shocks, the only other difference to the twin hammers are the metal gearbox. Is this true? I see that the WLtoys has metal differentials, am I right in assuming that if you change the gearbox to metal, it is 100% the same as the twin hammers chassis and gear (excluding electronics and shocks)? Do you think that the metal gearbox upgrades are required to run a brushless sytem on the WLTOYS? Finally if I may, I don't want to spend too much upgrading the electronics, what would be the best brushed motor that would work in the truck, and is it worth it? Or should I bite the bullet and go brushless? Thanks again everyone |

But be aware that the details of 2-speed main gear box and the front differential box. I did open those two and change metal gears and diffs on both. If you follow the twin hammer kit's user manual, you will find the WLToys gear box is a little bit short, because I try to add one or two e clips (5mm) on the shaft and the gearbox can't seal tightly due to the extra thickness of the e clips. The other issue is the front diff box, don't buy the VT's standard metal diff lock, it won't fit in this WLtoys. There is a small bump inside the diff box, where the spider gears loacated. see this pic, I borrowed from jm73's mini review post. the part I'm talking about shows on the left of the picture. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/atta...mentid=9499139 As for the brushless or brushed motor, it really depends on your budget. I personally choose a cheap brushless system from banggood. Here is the link Brushless Motor and ESC Oh, almost forgot to mention, the shaft diameter is different, so you need to change the pinion gear too. I also change the TX/RX. I'm not a fan of those 5-pin servos and electronics. To sum up, I am still pretty happy about this WLToys 10428, most of it's mechanical parts are identical to VTH, which give you more upgrade choices in US market. This reply is a little bit longer than I expected, hope this can help. |

Thanks bcbbc. I'm considering the 1/10 series (The Jeep version) The version A,B and C look the same internally , but the body and roll cage is different in all. Slightly differences I like or dislike but definitely a great model with good specs.

If someone is going to buy this today, is it better to go with a FEIYUE - FY03 or WLtoys 10428, or 10428-B (Has lights). I'm rather new and just looking for some insight. I can't seem to find release date for these different models but newest doesn't necessarily mean better.

If you have no support meaning no spare parts you are in a tough spot. If you like a specific car first check if you can find spare parts for it and since shipping takes about a month you may want to purchase in advance the parts that are more likely to break |

The WLtoys 10428, or 10428-B is 10th scale. Regarding parts availability, I'd go with 10428, or 10428-B. It is a Veterra Twin Hammers clone and Horizon Hobby carries a full line of replacement parts. Virtually any 10428 plastic component that breaks is directly replaceable with a Twin Hammers equivalent. And there is a huge aftermarket of aluminum upgrades for suspension components. Just google "Twin Hammers upgrade". The electronics are completely different, so if a WLToys servo goes, you'll need to resort to eBay, GeatBest, Banggood, etc for a WLToys parts,( or swap them out completely with aftermarket electronics). |

Sorry for the cross post, but I want share a quirk discovered when upgrading the 10428 with parts advertised as K949 upgrades.
The original K949 appears to have narrower C hub carrier than the 10428, I bought some blue alloy front lower A arms (part no. K949-004) that would not fit my 10428. It looks like somewhere along the line, the design changed. Notice the slight jog of the A arm in the K949 photo. The front edge of the A arm on the 10428 is straight, and the C hub carrier is wider. I ordered the matching hub carrier (part no. K949-002) in the hope that I'll be able to use the arms. After I discovered this, I went back and looked at photos of some other A arms (advertised on Banggood which specifically mentioned the 10428). By my highly unscientific method of resizing the photo and holding up my K949 arms up to my laptop display... the Banggood arms "appear" to be the right size for the 10428. I also ordered the alloy rear lower links (part number K949-008), and they fit perfectly and look great. Anyway, I hope this info helps someone avoid the same issue. |

I have seen many parts of banggood for fy01 f02 f03 are also suitable for wltoys 12428, from aliexpress maybe even other fy05.
There is however difference between 10428 and the others. This is more solid but costs more and adding spare parts you can spend 2/250 $, the price of a Losi night crawler 2.0 for example (crawler) While with an economic one is always around 100$, with oil shock and diff upgrade |
