A letter from my other senator
Take this for what it's worth.....
Ken June 23, 2016 Dear Mr. Hanawalt: Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding model aircraft. As your senator, it is important for me to hear from you. Please accept my apology for the delay in this response. On June 21, 2016, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) finalized the first operational rules for routine commercial use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drones) and clarified rules for model aircraft. According to the FAA these rules open “pathways toward fully integrating UAS into the nation’s airspace. The new regulations work to harness new innovations safely, to spur job growth, advance critical scientific research and save lives.” The new rule will not apply to model aircraft. Model aircraft operators must continue to satisfy all the criteria specified in Section 336 of Public Law 112-95, which will now be codified in Part 101, including the stipulation they be operated only for hobby or recreational purposes. However, this rule does not change the registration requirement. If your model aircraft weighs more than 250 grams, you must register it. To summarize, nothing has changed from earlier this year for hobbyists by this rule. Congress has been working on reauthorizing our nation’s aviation laws. During consideration of the FAA reauthorization bill on the Senate floor, negotiations continued regarding drones and model aircraft. Unfortunately, these provisions were not able to be included in the final bill due to procedural hold-ups. However, the full House of Representatives has not yet considered the aviation reauthorization bill. It is my hope that the House will consider a bill in the near future so Congress can reconcile the differences between the two versions of this bipartisan legislation and have it signed into law, or negotiation policy positions can be included in an extension bill of current law. Thank you again for contacting me. I will keep your thoughts and concerns in mind as the administrative, legislative, and judicial process continues regarding model aircraft. At least he addressed the situation and explained it
One Senator never responded and the One that did just basically said, I did what i think was best for our State...and that was it...in other words he voted which ever way his party voted and nothing was addressed concerning the matter. |

I was surprised I received the reply. I had forgotten I had even sent something.
Grassley has been in office a very long time. He is one reason I don't want term limits. On the other had he is the exception to the rule. most should have a term limit of about 60 days. It seems like he does listen to the public and has some common sense. UNLIKE most of our congressmen. Ken |
