This year I attended the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum & History of Flight Air Show held in Red Hook / Rhinebeck, New York, USA.

The Old Rhinebeck Museum has one of the largest collections of early aeroplanes in the world, as well as automobiles, motorcycles, early engines and memorabilia spanning the period from 1900-1939. The air show run every weekend June through October, weather permitting.

Too many photos for one blog, so I decided to make it a 2 part:
Part I Museum Motorcycles, cars, engines & planes
Part II Air Show & cars

Before you see the pictures, see if you can answer this question
The Wright Brothers did not invent flight, so what did they invent?
The answer is in the last group of photos

Well you left this one kinda wide open but I would like to take several stabs at your answer .

Wing Warping ? The aileron function was done by the warping of the wing changing airfoil shape
Wooden Props ?
Pusher configuration ?
Forward elevator configuration ?

Did the brothers also have something to do with inventing their own wind tunnel for testing airfoils ?

Dunno . You have me on this one .

For those interested, I would suggest the book "How We Invented the Airplane: An Illustrated History" by by Orville Wright. It is not too long, larger print & lots of pictures. Even good for youth interested in the history. => https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0486256626

My book review: Once you read "How We Invented the Airplane", you realize just how closely they depended on the works of Otto Lilienthal to invent ???"

Otto Lilienthal created gliders and even a ornithopter
he basically created aerodynamics or I should say the beginning there of anyway.

he was the main influence of the Wright Brothers.

I do not want to go look it up....so...i will think some more...lol

Your right, they did design their own engine, but others also put engines on their flying machines but failed. From the book A common misconception is that if a man can build a model that flies he should be able to build a larger machine of the same design that would fly equally well. But one difficulty is that when you double the linear measurement of a machine you need about eight times the power to make it fly. They did solve this challenge but their are more challenges they solved to be able to achieve the great feat others had not mastered.

They were the first to put all the research together to achieve a powered, controlled & sustained flight.
