Kyosho Lost Surfboards Edition RC Surfer 3 RTR

Ride waves like a pro with the re-release of the Kyosho Surfer!

Kyosho 1/5 Lost Surfboards Edition RC Surfer 3 RTR

The Surfer is Back!

The original and sought after Kyosho RC Surfer has made it's triumphant return in the form of the Lost Surfboards Edition RC Surfer 3 RTR. Designed for wave riding action in fresh water or salt water, the Kyosho Surfer 3 features a double skeg/rudder that protects the propeller from contact with the bottom after catching that gnarly wave. The board itself is waterproof to protect the internal electronics, and the surfer is soft mounted for durability. The Kyosho Surfer 3 retails for $229.99, and is scheduled for release in early July 2016.

Pretty cool to see it in action. Not sure I'll be getting one though. Mostly because the lake doesn't really have waves that would make it worth while.

It will work quite nicely in a standing wave on a river.

That's the first time I've heard a half decent song in an RC product video.

I've had both NQD Lisa's and the original Kyosho Dudes. There was a significant different in quality which resulted in good vs bad experience. I'm sure at $230 price point, these will remain dry out of the box which is a good first step.

The big questions that will determine whether these are at Lisa or dude quality
-Is board just hollow plastic (lisa) or one piece with foam like real surfboard (dude)
-Is the person/figure made of hollow plastic (lisa) or solid (dude)
-Can the drivetrain handle the inevitable brushless setups that people will put in (this version is brushed)
-Will they handle 1 foot waves (lisa) or 6 foot waves (possible with modified dude)

As I understand it, the Lisa from NQD came about when the machining forms were sold by kyosho. This means the shape is identical, but that's about it between the two. I see this looks like the same shape.. lets hope Kyosho does things right with this one

FYI I have a few original Kyosho Dudes for sale (brushed $250, brushless $400) here. Both have the modifications necessary to handle the big waves

Heh-heh. I "frogged" it myself, as I preferred the Frog's independent rear end.

I'm anxiously waiting on this one, so far from what I can tell it goes just slightly faster than a NQD Lisa (based on this video on flat water
Kyosho RC Surfer 3 (3 min 16 sec)

Fingers crossed that it is a solid board and figure.. otherwise it's just a watertight version of the cheaper boards, but with cool graphics.

I'm thinking Kyosho knows these are a highly niche product, so they probably wanted a large markup to compensate. I tend to doubt this is going to stand up to big waves without the same mods.

Took mine out to the beach yesterday for a test run. Completely stock, it's too slow for my liking. But this thing sure does draw a crowd!

I did throw in a 2s lipo which put some pep in his step, but just not quite enough still, so i ordered an HPI 15t motor (stock is 24t)to see if that gets me a little more speed while staying brushed.

Also, after 2 packs, i managed to somehow knock off one of the cooling tubes and the surfer abrupty stopped running (Steering still worked) but i flooded and roasted the stock motor.
