Mini-Plank 1S Brushless & flight video


Decided to make a miniplank. I really like the Planks flight qualities.

This is 14x6" weight now is 40 grams. Giving it a wing loading about 2.5oz/sq ft.

Has brushless motor and 150mah battery. F949 mother board. I am controlling it with my Turnigy i10 transmitter, fooling its rudder/elevator hardware.

I flew it this morning and was pleased. Flew right out of my hand. Still needs finish work obviously.

It could have been built a lot lighter as I built it from foamboard. Has a half of a bamboo skewer glued the leading edge.

What BL motor is that ? Flys well but it looks like it keeps you on your toes

The motor is a KEDA 1504 I think I burned it out some time back and rewound it The KV is about 4000 now. It runs at 2 amps with a stock F929 prop.

It will fly straight but gets out of good visual range too quick,

Having it in white foam makes orientation it a bit of a challenge. Need to make one side a different color.

Nice Basicguy! The brushless motor really gives it some zip.

A few years back I made a Micro StingRay, designed by dz1sfb. It flew very similar to your miniplank.

Micro StingRay thread.

Build info.
Foam: Elmer's Foam Board. (5mm)
Wingspan: 18"
Lipo: 200mAh (9g).
Guts: AR6400 and P51 motor.
Current weight is 20.8g without the lipo.



In the video, I extend the antenna on my JR8103. This wasn't necessary, because I was flying with the DM9 plugged in the module bay. Senior moment I guess.

Wow, nothing new under the sun. Great flying.

Yours is fast.

I have put on a cover on and decreased the vertical stabilizer.

Like this design, but will have to study the details and see if I can put one together with what I have on hand. Will likely need to buy something.

Yes, two reasons Derk. It puts the control leverage toward the middle of the control surface reducing twist on the elevon. It also reduces the downward travel and increases upward travel reducing adverse yaw. The servos have to be in the middle as they are mounted on the receiver

A similar design could be utilized with a micro receiver and small servos.

What I am exploring with this thread are variations on a theme, lots of others have done it, This is my turn.
