50+ AMP Power Supplies

Hey guys,

One of my club fields has AC Power.....but I'm killing my 25 amp Radio Shack power supply.

When charging two 8S3P packs at 6 amps each....I'm exceeding the current capabilities. I will soon need to charge 10S packs at 6 amps each....plus some smaller packs at the same time...

Anyone have a good suggestion for an easily portable 50 amp power supply? I need something that's less than 10 lbs ....smaller the footprint the better...

I would suggest two of the 25A units, one per charger. That's what I have (although I rarely push my chargers as hard as you are). It will be FAR cheaper and smaller than a 50A PSU..

If money is not an issue, go to www.trcelectronics.com and look at the Cosel 600 (or higher) watt PBA series power supplies. These are small, powerful switching supplies. I use the PBA600F-12 supply to charge 5S3P LiPos with two Astro 109 chargers.

Yeah...that's an option....but not as convenient as carrying one unit to the field with one bus bar...

Hi Jeff,

I've had some good success using 2 of these pc power supplies http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...148-007&depa=0
in parallel, they are 34a on the +12 volt side ( 2 in parallel should be good for 68a). I'm just charging 3s3p 6000mah but it kept tripping off my charger and I would have to start my car at the field to charge. Its cheap and light and has its own cooling fan built in.

You can try an IOTA power supply. I have an 55a and a 90a continuous 12 power supply. Great units and very light. You could charge 3 complete ION packs with the 90a unit.

Jeff, get a real 13.8V power supply:

www.astroncorp.com
or
www.ict-power.com
or
http://www.mfjenterprises.com/index.php

Are you looking for a switcher or linear supply? If you can deal with the weight of linear supply look no further than Astron. The Astron will last a lifetime.

Search google for MAAS/Manson SPS9600 (60A unit)
Lightweight (5.8kg/14pounds)

I got its littlebrother SPS9400 (variable 3..15V/stabilized 13.8V/40A max) which can be had for 160-200Euro.
Weight is 7pounds.
