Replacing frsky xsr soldered antennas

Is it possible to replace the soldered on antennas of the frsky xsr receiver?. Any tips? I have one of these receivers on the way for a new build and just want to know incase one gets cut

Its possible but....

Working with small gauge coax can be a real PITA, and if you're not careful when you are soldering the braid you can melt the dielectric core and short the signal to the shield.

Also, the working distances tend to be short, pad distances close, and pad size small, so you need good lighting, some form of magnification, a fine tip temperature controlled iron, and very steady hands.

Thanks to an inherited Essential Tremor in my left hand, I have every thing but the steady hands. Most likely I could do it but it would take me a while to get every thing setup...

Same boat here. Google found me this video. Looks like regular Rx antenna from Amazon. No mention of the 90mm length of the stock antenna. Must not matter.

How to replace antennas on FrSky XSR (7 min 23 sec)

Nice. Are the pads laid out for the U.FL connectors?

Awesome mod! Is this as easy as it looks? How's the signal compared to default?

Will these work? http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...1CT-ND/2135256

hello ,

I already changed my antennas on my XSR. And one just ripped off , the pad where the center of the coax was soldered on just went with the entenna..

So I have 2 questions , as I think I can't use the left antenna pad anymore :

1 - Why is ther 2 antennas ? are they the same ?
2 -If they are,, could I just solder the two on the same pad ?
3 - "Why just bother ? just buy an other one !"

Thanks

There are two antennas because one is used to send telemetry back to your radio and the other receives the signal.

So your answer is 3: Buy a new one.
