Dunno how I missed this thread - great info. My Wizard Compact quasi-DSX that also used to belong to Will Deighton, had some amazing strong alloy clevises. Big thick fat things with clip locks. Not the most narrow and aerodynamic (although they were nicely torpedo shaped) but super easy to fit and take on and off and slop free. I think they were a heli fitting, and when I tried to find them again they seemed to have stopped making them. Might see if I can find an old trashed one and put a photo up.

Where is the inspiration

Interested in what batteries people are running.

I am mostly using enloop 4 or 5 cell.
in a couple of models I have 2S lipos where I am running HV servos.
I haven't tried E-Cigarette batteries, more because they are not as readily available as a pack, and I haven't been very successful at making my own packs.

I’m still an eneloop guy for foamies but the 2S Li-Ion has gotta be the best choice for fast DS.
Here’s a K2m setup with Spencer’s Li-Ion pack.
Dual leads, balancing tap. edit: 3500mAh.

I've never had a bad experience with the Li-Ion 18650 packs. Been using them for about 5yrs now. Cell technology has only gotten better over time. Now I'm making the packs with LG MJ-1 which have 3500mah and are rated for 10A continuous load. Way more than you'll ever need but sure is comforting to have the insurance. Also, I've found that the side by side packs will also fit in the current K2m fuselages no problem. Email me ([email protected]) if y'all need any packs. I have a bunch of them.

Stu, if you can, I'd recommend adding another piece of tape on your pack about 1.5" ahead of the other one. The pack is OK to flex at the joint a little but you might as well have both cells in the pack reinforced by the G10 stick. I also like to spread a little goop over the joint between the rc connectors and the receiver. Easy enough to peel off if you ever need to service.

Thanks Spencer, good advice, everything in our setup needs to be bulletproof. 100Gs.
That pic was just a mock-up with a g10 tongue that was broken in half. I didn’t try to fly with that.
I also glue connectors.

+1 for GOOD 18650 cells. Beware, buy known branded cells like the Panasonic etc as some Chinese cells are crap and can't output any current

I use 4 or 5 cell eneloops in all my standard voltage setups, or 6.6v life packs in small models likt the gizmo and some foamies. And all my good HV setups have 18650 2s packs

I just got a side by side Li-Ion pack from Spencer for my D80 and to test fit in the K2m.
I think you could easily fit a 4 cell in the D80 and comfortably fly all weekend.
Thought I would post a pic with a couple other packs for size comparison.

Where can I get a 2 cell 14500 Li-ion pack? Or even a reliable supplier of genuine cells.

I'd love to know. I bought several different brands all with different mAh ratings. None of them even lived up 400mAh... High internal resistance and bad voltage sag under load (flaps full down). Crap....

The more I read the more I'm thinking these are not a good size for our application. Even the top-rated Sanyo UR14500P 840mAh has a max discharge current rating of 2C. Even AAA Eneloops are rated at 3C.
