The Blue Frog - Post your pictures & Feedback here!

Hi Everybody!,

Thanks for the great response and encouragement on my Frog design. The beta tester's kits should be arriving shortly. Please post any pictures, and comments here. I hope everybody gets a lot of enjoyment from their kits, and look forward to improving the design with all of your help.

Hippo, received the kit yesterday afternoon. I was a bit nervious that UPS would crush it, but it was all in good shape. Not a dent in the box. Maybe with the picture on the box and the light weight caused them to be extra carefull. Do you have any recommendations on control throws? Also where should the CG be?

Flying info

Hey Glad it showed up in one piece. I'm going to update the instructions to include flying setup info, and trimming instruction. In the meantime...

Control throws are: Rudder about 1.25", Elevator about .75" in each direction. The CG should be approx 2" back from the leading edge of the wing. Just about the highest part of the undercamber.

I've found the plane to be pretty tolerant of different CGs. You'll want to keep it close though. You'll want to trim it so that it climbs slightly at full throttle, and keep a little throttle on at all times. That big prop stops this thing like a drag chute if you let it.

Let me know how it goes,
-Dan

P.S. I got a call from Dave Morris this morning who reminded me that you should turn on your radio, and center your servos before attaching the control arms etc... Thanks Dave.

I'm glad you like it. I'm hoping to have the kits in production this summer. It's too early to be more accurate than that. I definitely want to keep the price under $50.00

As soon as the "Beta Testers" help me work the bugs out of the design and the instrucions, I'm planning a larger sample to test my production capabilities. (How many planes can I make before I go insane from the foam cutting fumes ) I will be letting everyone know before that happens. (The second beta, not the insanity, hopefully.)

For right now, I intend to keep this a PUBLIC beta test, so you'll all get to hear what people like and don't like about it.

Info

Hi guys,
I plan on starting my kit tommorrow and I dont know what the other testers are using for their power set(Dan recommends the GWS flight system), but I am going to power mine with a geared 280 ,GP 10A ESC,and 2 Hitec 81's.I ordered Dymonds new micro receiver (4 channel full range(2 D60 servos)(and their 25 amp ESC)))for 95$.I plan on swapping those in when I get them.Hopefully by monday or tuesday next week.In the meantime,I'm raiding the scooter. Dan did an excellent job cutting the foam and the instructions are detailed(with just a few correctionswhich are to be expected with a new kit).I wilprobably have to modify my battery pack that I plan on using(7 cell 600mah).I will be posting pictures as I go along. So hopefully after I get mine built and fly it,along with the others,we will see what power systems well with this plane besides the GWS.For the other testors, lets be like "FROGS" and hop to it!

I'll volunteer, out of the goodness of my heart, to be in the second beta group!
And as I live just four houses down from my flying field, I promise LOTS of test data

New instructions are up!

Hey!

I've added to the instructions, they're available as a word file from the same link above. Also due to popular demand, the instructions are available as a web page. The formatting is a little wonky, but the download is way quicker.
