This was my first gas, biplane, and warbird so I hit the trifecta. I took my time triple checked all incidence came outwith a max total deviation of 1.2 to 1.4 degree variation. Had friends check it about every two weeks so I didn't build in our bury a mistake and have to RIP it apart. Fellow club member maddened it. Absolutely zero trim trim adjustments. Other than the landing flare it's like a two winded cub.
Enjoy it |

Maxford USA Bleriot XI 1/6 Scale - Diesel conversion
Maidened 15 July 2018.
No issues. 2.1 Kg AUW dry. Flew better than expected. Like an old fashioned flat-bottom low wing trainer. No issues apart from being very 'squirrelly' on take off. Aileron is coupled to rudder (50% throw) to prevent skidding in turns. The diesel "chug-a chug" sound at low RPM really adds to the 'arcane aircraft' experience. |

I just found this thread so I thought I would chime in. I have the Maxford Neiuport 28. The ARF kit went together fairly well without any major issues. I've had the plane for several years now with over a hundred flights. The plane had the usual WWI cg problem. Getting enough weight forward to get a good cg. I built mounts for batteries inside the cowl, used a heavy hub and finally had to add some lead shot mixed with epoxy to the lower inside cowl lip. I originally had a SPE 26cc engine. But it was worn out and could no longer get parts so I replace with a DLE 20 that I had. (that is where I had to add the lead shot as it is lighter than the SPE. Power is adequate. The plane flys ok. The roll rate is slow even with maximum throws on the ailerons. The rudder is very effective. Also a lot of adverse yaw so you need to use a lot of rudder, even with differential ailerons, twice as much up as down.
The major draw back of the version I have is that there is no shock absorption in the landing gear. After an axle broke, I redesigned the gear to use bungees, much like the original. That helps a lot on lower stress on the airframe on takeoffs, landing and taxxing. |

Interesting choice of engine in this day and age, but nice to see. Where did you get your Kit? In Aus? Cheers, Hugh |

I have the 1/8 (approximately) scale Maxford Albatros. It's not a true scale outline, maybe that's why it is not designated as DV or DIII, it's neither but very Albatros ish. It is a very stable flyer, though the landing gear had to be modified since the wheels were too close to the cg resulting in many nose ins. I don't know if this is the case on the big one. I simply cut the wires of the rear lg struts and spiced in a length of wire with braided fishing line and ca which moved the wheels forward. No more nose in's. The provided spinner was flimsy and didn't last long, the nose in's smashed it early on. I made a replacement with fiberglass cloth.

I have their neiuport 28 in 5th scale 72? Inch span.
It has the full scale fixed gear... and as mentioned because of the short coupling from cg to firewall substantial weight was needed to balance. That being said. I found the before mentioned issue of nose overs until I changed how I landed... I use an exceptionally shallow angle of approach.. like about 10 degrees. I found I get beautiful looking long flared landings. Just what works for me.... Any type of steeper flare and over it goes. |

I've got the DH.2 but haven't started assembling it yet. It looks like a good quality kit though. The wood all looked great and the covering was good quality and wasn't wrinkled or anything. Don't know when I'll get around to assembling it but I will some day. More projects than time, and all that good stuff.
