Yes , using Dollar Tree foam board I did it this way ↓

Just don't fly your 40" SSD in the wet fog at the beach like I did or you will warp so much dihedral into the wing that the elevons bind up!

OMG!! I'm baaaaack!
Hey BOC, I had forgotten about the GSD that we last talked about here a while back. That looks like it would hold a set of lights really well. My local DT store has lots of black foam board so I could make a stealth version to fly at night. I just want to shake up the neighborhood a bit for fun. I never did build a Big Slow Delta either. I need to go back to the beginning of this thread and read them all just for fun. |

I thought I would wake this thread back up since I just built another Snowball. This one is gonna fly dang it! Almost done with it but I have a question about that 5 degree angle on the motor. I tried just scooting it across the carpet and it only wants to do a left turn. Is that normal?
Here is a picture of the new build. |

Thanks for the input. I will do an update later. I'm not sure when I will get to maiden this one. We either have rain or wind lately. |

I got the new Snowball finished. It is way too windy to fly but I took it outside in the driveway for a ground effects test. It still wants to pull to the left quite a lot and not much response from full right rudder either. I did try to see if it would fly anyway and there is not enough thrust to keep it in the air. So either I have the wrong size prop or the motor can't pull it. Here are the specs on it so far.
Build diameter: 20" AUW including 2S battery shown in picture: 350 grams +/- Motor: hexTronik 24gram Brushless Outrunner 1700kv Prop: 6038 Motor angle: 5 degrees more or less. I don't have a guide so I eyeballed it as compared to the pictures. It looks like I may have too much angle. The specs on this motor are: Kv - 1700rpm/v Best Load: 8.4A Max current: 9.2A No Load Current: .5A Suggested Lipo: 2 cell 7.4v Thrust: 400g+ Suggested Prop: 8x3.8 So, with that information, all I can think to try is a bigger prop. Any input on this is appreciated. |

In your photo , it looks like you have left thrust on your motor . |

So the motor is not supposed to have left thrust then? Only a 5 degree up thrust? I don't know how I misinterpreted that but I guess I did. I tried an 8" prop on it but that did not help much. It flew a little ways but only about 3 feet off of the ground. It seemed to be nose heavy. So, I will correct the motor angle and change props. Thanks.

Definitely use 3S and a 7 x 4 ( or 7 x 3.8 ) prop for that motor . |

I looked around and I couldn't find any 7" props anywhere so I did have some 6" tri-blade props so I put one of those on. I used a 3S battery and it seemed that it had a lot more thrust. I took it outside and set it in the driveway and with full throttle, it would scoot along on the concrete pretty good but it would not take off.
I guess I will order some 7" props and try it again when they get here. I have two more 220kv motors and I am tempted to try one but they are so much heavier so I guess that is not an option on this plane. |
