ZLog MOD2

ZLog MOD2 is coming along well. Flew first test flights this morning. MOD2
has the following improvements:
  • Power supply can now handle lower voltages - can be powered from 4-cell packs in sail planes or gassers.
  • Now much thinner.
  • Modified layout to allow heat shrinking for protection.
  • Modularized serial interface to support USB (coming soon).

Size comparison with MOD1 (top is MOD2):

MOD2 is much thinner:

Data from today's flight. Flying the slowstick around, doing a few loops and
tail slides and such. Data looks nice and clean:

Should be available in the next week or two, with the USB adapter following
a couple weeks later.

Matt,

As usual, a great job. How long is your list for the mod2? Place me on it if you would and let me know where I stand on it too if you would. Looks fantastic, and I look forward to having a new version soon.

Just a short list right now, since this is the first I've really presented it.
Mostly those that missed MOD1. I'm starting out with a larger quantity this
time, so hopefully I'll have plenty. I'll put you down for one.

Thanks,

Matt,

Thanks, let me know when you determine the cost so I can budget for it (yeah, right, I just won't tell the wife how much it is anyway ). You keep making a good thing better.......keep it up............

Matt, I ordered a Mod 2 today. I have a Mod 1 that unfortunately suffered an early demise in a truck/plane accident; but that is another story. My question is this: I still have the Mod 1 serial cord and connector. Can I use my newly ordered Mod 2 with the serial interface until the USB becomes available and then switch to USB, or is the device itself different?

Thanks for a great product. Even though I grieved over the loss of the first one, it will be great to get your latest version.

Ahh, that was you? I was going to email you. I didn't know if you realized
that it was not quite available yet or not. I really wasn't planning to take
payments yet, so if you'd like, I can refund your payment until it is ready.
I've just been working on getting the shopping cart functional.

Unfortunately, the old serial cable will not work with MOD2. I moved the
serial transceiver off the main board and into the new serial adapter. This will
allow the USB adapter to work with MOD2 also.

I'd be interested to hear about the demise of the first. What's the damage?

I've put the costs on the web page. Cost for just the ZLog is lower, but now
requires the serial adapter which adds a little more. I split the serial adapter
off of the main board for two reasons:

(1) some people were buying multiple ZLogs, so this reduces the cost of
multiple serial transceivers and associated parts,
(2) this allows for a USB adapter that plugs in at the same spot on the main
board.

You mentioned a few weeks, but do you have a firmer date for the MOD2 w/USB support? I am in the market again for "gadgets" to put on my planes. Most of the guys I fly with really want to know how high that speck really is.

Shoot me a PM if you wish.

I expect to be ready with the ZLog module and serial adapter in one week,
+/- a day or two. About 4 weeks on the USB adapter.

You can keep checking the webpage and I'll update the date as I know more.

bjcnow8, added you to the list.

Thanks,

Will do. I'll probably have plenty of serial and USB adapters. Looks like many
are interested in having one of each.
