8CC gas Evolution engine.

Hey people,

Bought hangar 9 8cc p51.

It asks for 20:1 ratio of gas/oil

All I can find in stores are 40:1 and 50:1.

What should I do?
Would it hurt to use 50:1 ratio?

Thanks

You can mix it yourself. Buy some good quality ethanol free gas. 20:1 means that for every litre you add 50 ml (or 6.4 fl oz per gal)

You might consider purchasing a "ratio rite" measuring cup.

It is designed for mixing 2 stroke oil, and has markings showing the correct amount of oil for different ratios and different amounts of gas (20:1 for 1 gallon, for example).

It makes life easier, and reduces the chances of making a mistake.

Ok thanks, one more question, is 2 cycle oil the same things as 2 stroke oil?

Yes.

Note that not all 2 stroke/cycle oil is the same. Oils that are designed for oil injection systems and/or marine engines may not work as well for our airplane engines as say something that says "rated for air cooled " 2 stroke engines. If it says that, you're good to go.

Ditto. Sthil ultra synthetic or Redline synthetic are popular choices.

Use twice as much "40:1"... That will make the mixture 20:1.

Mix the fuel with a bit of water and shake in a clear Glass container , the mix will seperate into 2 or more layers the top one will be your fuel .The bottom layers layer are ethanol and water .On the top is Pure fuel just siphon off the good stuff . The gas will have a slightly lowered octane content .Please use static precautions and use a glass container not plastic to seperate the fuel, as plastic can cause static explosions .

Great info! Thanks. Btw, do you know what layer will be the good stuff? am I right in assuming that fuel will be on top?

Do as you like, but Ehanol won't affect that engine one bit.
