White EPP Vs Black EPP

Is there any difference between the black (Zagi SI leading edge or whole combat Zagi) and white (LEG Gliders) EPP used in models? Most of the PSS planes seem to use the white stuff, which in photos looks more user-friendly and easier to sand than the black stuff.

I don't know where to get white EPP in the UK, but know plenty of places to get the black.

Alternatively, does anyone know where to get the white stuff in the UK?

Help!!! I wanna start building!!!

It appears to be white in the U.S. and black in the U.K.. I don't believe there are any other real differences.

There is no difference. I can buy several different colors from the manufacturer I get EPP from.

Red Baron,

I have worked with both, can't detect much difference, the black seems a bit softer. I now use white which I buy from the US. It actually works out a bit cheaper than buying the usuall black stuff in the UK! Where do you buy your black EPP?

Haven't bought any before, this'll be my first time with EPP, but I think Stan Yeo of Pheonix models sells it as well as his models. I remember another pilot saying that he bought his from blackburn models Balsamart but I can't find any in their catalogue, is a few years old though, so they may sell it. Where from the US do you order the white, is there a website?

There is another type of black EPP that is used in car bumpers/fenders. It has carbon in it, I think. This stuff is used by my LHS for some of their wings and it is very tough. In fact, it is quite hard to sand and shape in comparison to the usual white EPP. Seems to be a lot harder to compress as well. The disadvantages are that it is harder to work with and it seems to have a lot more stringy plastic bits attached to it after the hot wire cutting process and they are harder to remove.

That car bumper stuff is the black stuff I mean. It leaves plastic spider webs that have to be cut off rather than sanded.

On slofly.com, how big are the "planks of foam"? I want quite a big lump of it (45" long fuselage and 60" wings).

They don't seem to give very much information.

And RPVI.com seem to have stopped selling foam too, having formed a rockband. They're ok actually
Nothing to stop selling foam about though !

Generally, you'll see wings cut out of 1.9 EPP and fuselages cut out of 1.3. I did use all 1.9 for my last airplane, and it came out very nice - but heavy.
