Build Log
Flyduino KISS FPV Racing Quad
Though I'm not an FPV race guy but rather hovering instead of fast forward flying, I decided to build one together with a friend.
We took all parts for the basic setup from the Flyduino Shop as it offers almost everything needed. KISS FC RCG Thread KISS FC Manual KISS FC Chrome APP KISS FC Update Instructions KISS ESC24A RCG Thread KISS ESC24A Manual KISS PDB for 24A Manual We already had a few peripheral parts like the FPV cam and transmitter, lipos and RC receiver. For a start we used an FrSky 8channel PPM receiver and a Taranis. The X4RSB 3 receiver offers both S-Bus and S-Port (for telemetry) which we will use later. The build consists of the following parts: - Warthox MiniCP120 with carbon fibre arms http://flyduino.net/Warthox-MiniCP12...ation-Material - KISS FC 32bit Flight Controller http://flyduino.net/KISS-FC-32bit-Flight-Controller_1 - KISS ESC 24A racing edition 32bit brushless control http://flyduino.net/KISS-ESC-2-5S-24...s-motor-ctrl_1 - Flyduino X2208v2 2000kV brushless outrunner Motor CW and CCW versions http://flyduino.net/Multikopter-Brus...Multicopter_32 http://flyduino.net/Multikopter-Brus...Multicopter_34 HQ 6x4.5 Bullnose Props CW/CCW http://flyduino.net/HQProp-6x45-1524...4-pcs-with-cfk http://flyduino.net/HQProp-6x45-1524...ass-reinforced - XT60 lipo male plug&wire http://flyduino.net/XT60-Male-assembled-with-wire - Cable set for ESCs http://flyduino.net/Cable-sets-for-ESC Additionally we needed a few other parts like standoffs, screws & nuts, heat shrink, zip ties and double sided tape. We also milled an extra top and bottom plate from 1mm CF to protect the precious and as a mounting plate for the onboard Mobius camera. The lower plate makes a nice and tough battery compartment which easily survives harder landings without exposing the lipo to possible damage. DXF files for the DIY plates in the attachments FYI: Flyduino now also offers 36x36mm carbon plates that perfectly fit on the KISS FC as a cover on DIY frames to protect your precious. Also usable as a lipo compartment on the bottom of the frame. Made from 0.8mm CF, only 1.8gr: http://flyduino.net/36x36mm-Coverplate-full-carbon I'm also building another Quad where I use the power distribution/carrier board for the ESC24A. http://flyduino.net/Flyduino-Kiss-Ca...-24A-Version_1 I must say that I never did a build that fast since the PDB lets you set up the basic parts in no time. Unfortunately it's a tad too big for the Warthox frame but we wanted to use a "classic" frame with round center plates instead of the typical streched FPV race frames. Weight is ~365gr without Mobius and Lipo. We use Turnigy Nano-Tech 4s 1800mAh 65-130C Lipos (~230gr), 1400mAh Multistar (race edition) come at ~155gr. Mobius incl. holder and SD card is ~40gr Height is 70mm from bottom to top plate. 234mm rotor-to-rotor (~250mm tip-to-tip) makes it a 250class racer. The Warthox frame comes with all needed parts for a clean build Except for the DIY parts we added, the package contains everything needed to mount the FC, motors etc. It also comes with a built-in power distribution. We first mounted the motors on the CF arms Next step was to wire the built-in power distribution of the Warthox frame Then we started to wire the FC Connecting the FrSky receiver Building the battery compartment and extra top plate Soldering the KISS 24A ESCs We put the ESCs in clear heat shrink after we checked the rotation direction of the motors. The ESCs were then mounted on soft double sided tape and the wires were fixated with 3mm zip ties. Detail - a Boot Switch for better Access Under the Hood - the filter for the video signal Putting everything together More images in the attachments below. . ImagesView all Images in thread

Maiden Flight of the newborn KISS Racer
It was a cold and windy day and it started to rain again&again. So we had to wait for dry periods in between rain and hail storms and change flying spots - not an ideal situation for a maiden flight. All flights with stock settings (firmware version 1.01) Comment by my friend: "This thing is completely overpowered!" Disclaimer: No curious cats were harmed in this video! After some more tuning we'll upload more videos if the weather is better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Better Weather - Next Try
This time the Mobius played tricks on us so there's only a short offboard video of today's test flight. We used firmware version 1.02b5, PIDs from the WT MiniCP presets and OneShot 42 I must say I never had such a locked in quad that followed the throttle stick like a puppet-on-a-string! The motors also run smooth and ESCs stay cool. From the thrust tests we know the motor/prop combo can draw a whopping 35Amps at ~1.2kg thrust that makes a Thrust/AUW relation of 8:1 . |

Excellent build and build log, Kinderkram! Did you not want to put an AutoQuad controller on it?
Seriously, will AutoQuad eventually support telemetry with the 24A KISS ESC? Live ESC telemetry would probably be a useful feature on a large AQ multi-rotor as well. |
Latest blog entry: Explore new (old) forms of flight! :)

Nope - no AQ this time. In dunno how much of an effort itīll be to make AQ and KISS 24A work together - but both support the One Wire protocol. The ESC for telemetry and the AQ for settings transfer. Will ask Felix about it... |

Out of interest what is the weight of this? without battery?

Sorry but I donīt sell the plates but offered the files for DIY.
But you could also buy a second set of center plates and only use one: http://flyduino.net/Warthox-MiniCP-V1-CP-Set_1 We wanted to keep the build as compact as possible with the weight around the center. In principal it should also work like you described. |

Thx! And itīs still evolving.
Next step will be installing the MinimOSD for the goggles. We decided to keep the PPM receiver and use the KISS telemetry instead of the radio. Maybe weīll add the X4RSB and S-Port telemetry later... Itīs nice to see the whole data instead of just the battery warning. |

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I'm going to go for the full kiss set up in a 5" alien. I was looking into the kiss pdb and it looks cool but not sure how it would fit in the alien which btw also has its own pdb. Maybe I'll get both and see which works better.
