High Sierra Club House Chatter

For some time I've been thinking about starting this new thread. The purpose is to have a central location for all of the clubs in our area to post information and make it easier to communicate with each other.

My hope is that it becomes a "one-stop" info center for our clubs, but the thread is not intended to replace any clubs thread,

Please use it to post your clubs event schedules, upcoming events, or any other subject you would like to discuss. Post your pics, projects, or reach out to other members for something you need, or are looking for.

Here's wishing you a HAPPY NEW YEAR and great year of flying in 2016. Bob Jones

It was a Frozen Finger Fun-Fly

The sixteenth consecutive Frozen Finger Fun-Fly took place today at the Pony Express Air Park. The day started out cloudy, windy, and cold. But by 10:00 a.m. it was a beautiful sunny day... and a balmy fourteen degrees.

Attendance was fantastic, with flyers from Fernley, Reno, Garnerville, Lake Tahoe and as far away as the Bay area.

Many thanks to Gary Fuller who has handled the event for all these years,

There will be a extended report in the next HSRCC Newsletter. BJ

I have been meaning to make the Castle Giant Scale event for years. I will try to get the time off. Does it get crazy for the weekend to the point of making the mid week portion more enjoyable or is it pretty reasonable the whole time?

A few months ago I want to the Best in the West jet show in Bakersfield. It was a lot of fun but I have to admit it was more fun during the WED-FRI flying. On the weekend the pace was pretty frenetic. That's what 225 pilots in one place will do to any event with one runway and one flight line and one type of flying going on the whole time. 150 pilots at a time is more manageable. 100 even better - enough to run into old friends and see neat things but the choke hold on the flight line is tolerable.

PS good idea on the club house thread. Wish I could have made it to the FFF!

Castle Fun-Fly

ED... Castle is really a great event. Last year there was over 200 registered flyers. They run five flight stations at a time so getting in the air is not a problem. About every hour they shut down regular operations to allow 3-D or turbine flying, if there are enough pilots to warrant it.

After 5:00 p.m. there is open flying for any size or type of model. There is also night flying.

Saturday seems to be the busiest day.

If you can make it, I don't think you will be disappointed.

This used to be called the IMAA West Coast Festival. Since there is no IMAA anymore, it's going to be the "2nd annual, Giant Scale Fun Fly in Atwater, CA" (19 years of operation but only the second year without the IMAA sanction, all the same). It's just north of Merced, CA, on the north end of Castle Airport.

I'd love to be able to make an event down at Minden/Gardnerville. It looks like a beautiful flying field. I will keep my eyes open for the season schedule!

We are so fortunate to have some amazing RC flying and we are surrounded by enthusiastic aviators up here in high country!

Ed... Thanks for posting these links. Wouldn't it be a great thread if all the clubs posted their newsletters, events, and other news here.

One stop info for RC flying in Northern Nevada. Thanks again. BJ

Ed... I hope you can make it down there some time. There are a lot of top tier pilots and builders down there, expecially when it comes to war bird racing.

The AMA has added warbird racing to the NATS this year in Muncie, and a large contingent from Gardnerville and other clubs in CA are going there to compete on July 15th and 16th.
