Dave Patrick - Super Cub eTowplane conversion

Just arrived in the Diss gara^H^H^H^H workshop: One shiney new, all white, DPM Super Cub. Waiting to go inside: one shiney new, all black Actro 60-4 and Apogee 10S3P pack. This'll turn a 18x10 prop about 6,000 RPM.

This plane will be an aerotow tug and banner tow plane.

Pics to follow...

Step one: Mount the motor. The distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl opening is 6.5". I need a 3.25" standoff to bring the motor up to the front.

I got the motor mounted last night. I made three standoffs from some 1" aluminum rod I had lying around. I turned them down to .5", cut them to 3.25" and threaded each end for 6/32 bolts. I followed the instructions and sat the fuse on the tail with the firewall sticking straight up, laid the motor attached to the mount on the firewall and mounted the cowl. This allowed me to properly align the spinner to the cowl. Without moving the motor I removed the cowl and marked the firewall. After that it was simply drilling and mounting. Done!

Tonight, I'll attach the controller and mount it, then get to work on the tail.

Nice work on the tow release!
Who is that in the reflection? Ever see that ebay photo of the fat nekked guy reflected in the tea kettle he is selling?

Hmm... Hadn't noticed the reflection. Good thing I had my shorts on.

Excellent choice for power system! I´ve been flying with Actro 40-6 and 10s2p Kokam 3270 -pack more than 30 flight hours, some 200 aerotows
for 1/4 scale gliders with my Cub. I used mainly in aerotow Menz 19x10"/11"
and 20x11" Menz props.With 19x10" it gives 5700rpm at 38A,
20x11" 5300rpm at 43A.

Hey Ben, is it 40-6, or is it a 60-4?

It was pretty simple to get the spinner/cowl distance right.
