New Emax MT2205 II 2300KV (red bottom) Race Motor. ~ 1kg per corner~

Just thought I'd start a thread for these in the power systems section.

I got a tester set of these motors on Wednesday and have been running packs through them since. They should go on sale here in the next few weeks.

I applied to test these cause being 2205's I figured they would be at least a little stronger than my MN T motor 2204's. Well it turns out these IMO are going to be the best motor on the market here soon.

Here's one of the reasons why -

(video by EpicRC)

Cliffs notes: ~ 1000 grams of thrust on a 5" prop. I confirmed this with my turnigy stand and got 950g on a Gemfan 5045 BN.

So by swapping my t motors for these I gained right around 800g total.

I also have a set of RCX 2205 2350's and I've benched those at 765g on the GF BN 5045. I don't know how the Emax's are making so much thrust and yes they are a true 2205.

The other reason is the build quality. There is zero vertical play in the bell on any of the 4 samples that I have. If the bells didn't spin you would think the motor is a solid chunk of metal. The prop shaft is just long enough for the GF BN and they each come with tons of mounting screws and 3 prop nuts.

About the only downside is that they weigh 30g. So compared to say a Cobra you take a 20g weight penalty but for hundreds of grams more thrust.

I spent most of today tuning mine on the Racehound for the GF 5050 tris which they spin with ease.

I'm told they're going to retail for $18.99. Very fair price I think. For this quality of motor and this amount of thrust I would pay $25+ without batting an eye.

side note: These are the red bottoms which are the 3rd and final revision of this prototype. There is also a black bottom model that makes less thrust. I'm guessing it might retail for less.

How is the efficiency compared to the cobra motors. Those motors look quit durably as well.

Naturally there's going to be a little more amp draw. With the GF BN 5045 I hit 23 amps compared to the 20 or so you would see with the cobra.

I got one for testing as well and yes, the motors look amazing and extremely well-built. EMAX makes very good motors but they just haven't become that popular. Lack of more aggressive FPV-oriented marketing perhaps. These "Racing" series might change that.
Great to see a new 2205 motor from a company that makes good motors. And yes, they're still including an allen wrench in each motor box.

If they used single wire winding would be better...

It's just the only complaint I have other than that they look amazing.

Quality of these motors looks good. I will keep an eye on this thread to see how robust they are.

Hey HPI guy, the red bottoms are the final production model and make about 100g more thrust.
