New Product

1:96 ULSTEIN SX-157 X-Bow TUG Kit NOW AVAILABLE

NEW PRODUCT:

1:96 Offshore Tug Boat

Barracuda RC Boats has done it again! After hearing many requests for a smaller scale version of the 1:48 Offshore Tug Boat, we have made a smaller kit sized at 1:96 for those who don't want a trailer to haul their boats to the pond.

The 1:96 Offshore Tug Boat is now available for order. As a Christmas gift to everyone, I will be offering the kits at a discounted price to RCG members until Jan. 15, 2016 at which time the price will increase to the normal $225+shipping.

This hull kit includes all laser cut frames, laser cut removable super structure, all sheeting, and a CNC cut keel. You will need to add your electronics, propulsion, and details.

Price for RCG members: $199 with coupon code "RCG"
that can be entered during the billing section of checkout.

Shipment of kits will begin Jan. 15th 2016.

For photos you can look on https://ulstein.com/ship-design/ahts Scroll down to links to the ALP FUTURE tug. There is a gallery for each tug.
ALP Maritime, owner of the four SX-157 tugs ALP KEEPER, ALP SWEEPER, ALP DEFENDER, ALP STRIKER, has some large photos in their download center:
https://www.alpmaritime.com/download-center

Shipspotting.com has pictures of the four tugs. Sign up and you can see the photos in the original size, sometime 4000 pixel. Excerpts can be used for details.

Searching flickr.com for the four tugs reveals a few photos too.

Or you can google for pictures of the four tugs.

Photos including details of ALP STRIKER: https://www.flickr.com/search/?user_...=alp%20striker

Here is a video of ALP STRIKER'S bollard pull test:

Drawings will be hard to find.

G. P.,

I do not see them "releasing" any plans or info, beyond what they have for industry "Sales and Marketing". You will probably have to scale things from photo's, which is not too bad, once you get used to it. This is going to be a common issue, if building almost any current vessel. Remember, these companies spent millions developing these projects, and they don't want to help their competition.

Look at the date, of f15pilot's original post, and the RELEASE date, Jan. 15, 2016.

Since then he closed up his shop, and later on, started doing things on a more limited basis?

Just something to remember.

I wouldn't hold my breath. As CaptCB already stated there went a lot of research into the X-Bow until it got patented.

I would try ALP Maritime also. Most Dutch towage company were quite helpful with material for model builders. Smit once provided complete packages for their more prominent tugs. I haven't had contact with ALP Maritime so I can't really be sure. I think it is worth a try. And you only need from the waterline upwards.

I've looked through my literature and found a GA drawing of ALP Defender containing decks and a side view but no front and rear views in the Dutch tug enthusiast magazine LEKKO #371.

I have scanned it but to sent it you need to PM me your e-mail address.

When contacting ALP Maritime you might mention that you have the LEKKO GA and ask for a larger drawing and the port, front and rear views.
Good luck.
