Question

Lithium cells and Power Peak Infinity 2

Hello !

I'm a newbie to this forum and I'm considering buying a Robbe Power Peak Infinity 2 charger (used) however it doesn't look like it can support Li-Pol and Li-Ion charging, is there any way I can charge these types batteries with that particular charger ?

Yes, if you follow the procedures for charging LIPOs and use a voltage safety guard for protection by FMA. Check www.batteryuniversity .com

That is a good reference.
But we push our packs beyond conventional wisdom.
That is why we have all kind of bad reports here...

No the Robbe Infinity II has no program for Lipo cells. But you can send it to Robbe to update the software to V2 which supports lipo and li-ion charging (up to 5 cells and 5A): costs 40 euro plus 5 euro for shipping it back to you.
I've received my charger back from Robbe a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased with its new features.

Thanks for the help guys, the batteryuniversity link was very useful, and thanks for the heads up for the upgrade.

With I have to think about the cost the guy wants 140 Euro for the charger + 45 for the upgrade = 185 not sure it's worth it....

A dedicated LIPO charger by Astro Flight model 109 follows the 3 stage program of charging LIPOs thoroughly, cost $109 at Sheldon's Hobbies in San Jose Ca USA

This is what everyone at RSA uses in San Jose

Seen 1 or 2 Robbe here last year

Hmmm... Now that Astro is much cheaper, I guess I'll wait until I'm stateside (mid september, San Jose as a matter of fact !) and I'll pick it up there and then ! I'll continue flying on NiMH and NiCD off my hitec CG-340 until then !

Thanks again

If you do not need more than 4S packs, like 5S, 6S... 9S then
the dedicated Lipo charger Apachee, for $49, is a much better deal.
Get it here from Japan but only $2.50 shipping to any corner of the world.
Aircraft-world is known for its excellent service.

Well, the price sounds very reasonable, I guess I'll do a search on anyone's experiences with this charger....

My thoughts exactly: take your time...

This charger is on sale in Germany for about 155 euro (without upgrade).
Or checkout http://www.hoellein.de/websites_neu/home/home.html
under 'highlights'...

If you want the AFI 109 LIPO charger, you should reserve one at Sheldon's, because they are usually sold out and big waiting list.

I use a Hobbico MkII dualie output ( two of them) for 2s1p amd 3s1P packs. I can charge 4 LIPO packs at the same time.

I use them with the FMA Voltage and Safety Guards 2 for 3 cell and 2 for 2 cell packs
