Question

Kfm airfoil ailerons

Hi all
My question is if I build a 7 inch kfm 2 airfoil, are the ailerons included in the overall 7 inches or an extra 2 inches of aileron plus the 7 inch airfoil for 9 total inches of wing.
Thanks for any info.

Usually, the aileron is part of the airfoil so 5 + 2., however 2 inches is very large aileron. There are ratios of aileron aileron area to wing area on line by searching. Strip ailerons (sport plane type) will be thin while barn door type (cub) will be shorter and wider.

Found the following from posts on RC Groups
Aileron

Trainer - 20% Wing chord
Sport Aerobatic - 25%
Aerobatic - 25%
3D - 35%+

and
The aileron surface area should be 10% - 12% of half of the wing surface:
• Example: If half a wing is 6" x 18" then the wing surface is 108 sq inches. The aileron shape should
equal 11 - 13 square inches of surface area.
