This is what happens when you use a loose term... The Government uses it against you... I've been saying all along that they should not be called "Drones" because they will use that term to include all RC aircraft... Man I hate when I'm right

I guess the NRA is stronger then the AMA!
Don't even go there buddy. Gun free zones are mass murder zones and all my guns ARE registered.

The government is unable to monitor or vet the influx of immigrants into the U.S. Yet they feel the need to control something that we as hobbiests have been policing by ourselves for decades. Factor in the number and severity of incidents on both sides and we're doing a better job than our Government. This is just another way for the Federal Government to get their foot in the door and both hands in your pocket. Do you really think it's going to only cost $5.00 in three years. They could say "ok now it's $25 or $50". Being registered and invested in the hobby you will almost be forced to pay once your in the system.

"Pilotless?"

Did they define the word "pilotless?"

Did they specifically say, "human pilot?"

If so, then we may have a problem; if NOT, then I would suggest that we all place either hamsters, or white mice in our planes, and designate them as our "pilots!"

I would go broke if they did this since I collect them.

OK... I am gonna take the other side for a moment....

it is only a matter of time until some joker with a FPV Quad gets hit by a helicopter or a passenger jet....

Most of these pole-smokers did not grow up in the RC culture...so they never learned to not do stupid things....

Registration is somehow a means to find the culperate responsible....

Now.. what good will that do? Well... perhaps they will have the person they need to put in jail...

will this law make any difference? (Other than pi$$ people off?)

Another regulation that will do NOTHING good....

I agree with all that don't want to register, its another way for the government to take our money and that's the only reason it exist! Just don't do it, we need to spread this message across the rc community don't register and let that be the message to the FAA! They can put stipulations with in the rules of the AMA that anyone caught operating an unmanned aircraft of any kind outside the boundaries set with in the rules of the AMA be fined or receive some other form of punitive action. This will help regulate the idiots that want to fly drones around airports or any other restricted areas unmanned aircraft should simply not be flown in. Requiring all members to register with a fee attached is another BS way to collect our dollars!

This entire registration/identification helps link a specific RC flying device with an owner for the purpose of maintaining some measure of accountability for any unforeseen 'litigation' .

How else would someone ID the operator of a an RC multi motor-driven model that flew straight into a baby carriage........but, in this instance, the carrage was being offered at a tag sale at the time.........but still. NO MORE ANONYMITY! ACCOUNTABILITY & RESPONSIBILITY THROUGH REGISTRATION OF OPERATORS OF RECORD.

Very simple. Comply of risk losing some bigger bux. 'We're from the government and we're here to help.'

Get out and Fly!
Wow really a fee? 5 US dollars! I think not.

First you take away or at least clam the right to prevent US tax paying folks from making a living with a drone by wanting to sell services and or images a.k.a "monetizing" any use of.

Now you want my hard earned money, I might consider it when it is free and you lift the making money with your drone inside the hobby level space.

This is America for christ sake, we where founded on the ideals of freedom and that entrepreneur right. I've served my country and pay my taxes, you can keep your damn hands out of my pockets and business.

No terrorist that intends to pack his drone with explosives is going to register it..
No Criminal that is going to rob a bank is going to register his gun.

This is a straw man !!!!

If its accountability of aircraft specifically drones flown in restricted areas the FAA wants then why would we need to pay a registration fee?
