Super Scooter

I am building a Super Scooter and am using heavier spars and longeron so it will be fun in the heavy winds we have been getting. Planning to use HS-65MG servo for the elevator and 82MGs for the ailerons. Elevator pushrod will be external. Balsa tail feathers. Considering adding a rudder powered by a 65MG.

Super Scooters now available at http://www.jwglider.com!

Got the wood trailing edge glued on with white gorilla glue. Wing tips are rounded and shaped. 2nd spackle coat is drying on the wing. Wood tail group is almost completed.

Mini update: spackle cycles completed on the wing. It came out very smooth. Time to lay out the radio gear...

I decided to do a full tape job on the wing: straight / bias / bias / straight. The wing is very strong and I could have saved considerable time and money by just using 10 mil lam film. A blurry photo:

Got the battery built. Will be using a 4 cell 1900 mah Eneloop pack. Powered up the wing to test the pack and everything checks out. The wing without linkages now weighs 23 ounces. The airframe currently weighs 33 ounces with battery, tail feathers, fuse and wing. This weight does not include elevator servo, fuse and tail covering, linkages and nose weight. I believe the plane will come in around 40 ounces AUW. Not a lead sled but will need some wind to get going.

Elevator servo cut in, potted and installed. I was planning to out the elevator servo in the tail boom but the cable was too short so I moved it under the wing saddle. I also installed the battery in the nose and made a small hatch to allow access to the battery lead. Rather than use a switch, I will use a servo extension and plug into the battery lead for power.
