Build Log
T-70 X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing and other Star Wars Builds (all with plans!)
The past year, I've been doing a variety of Star Wars related builds, mostly based around multi rotor setups. I've wanted to do an X-Wing, but I wanted it to work as a proper plane. Airhogs came out with a 2 channel version earlier this fall, but performance was rather poor, and it relied on a clear plastic canard to trim.
I started out making a chuck glider "scaled" to match the line of 3.75" figure toys Hasbro makes. This gives it a ~20 inch wingspan. I used the same electronics I usually put in my little twin builds (delteng RX34D, HK1.7g servos, MMM motors on Hubsan props) Surprisingly it flies much better than I expected. Going to do a painted version today, and try to get plans up shortly.
Flying starts at around 3:50 -Adam |

Got the new set of parts cut, painted, and weathered. Did a wash on it to dirty up the white, and fill in the panel lines.

Thanks guys!
I got it assembled this evening. I really like the look of the black wash. I think I'll do it to some of my existing planes, like the flapjacks. Just need to swap the gear over from the boilerplate version. For once, all of the cuts worked as drawn. I was worried about getting the cutout for the wings appropriately sized to get the wings at the proper di/anhedral, but it came out just right. I'll get the plans up soon ![]() -A |

Right now the CG is right at the leading edge of the wing, indicating that the forward fuse is working as a big strake, or crappy canard. I fear that boxing it out, would reduce the effectiveness of that surface area, and make the plane untrimable. Although, never know until you try I guess.

All done and flyable again. Put a 0.5mm rod between the laser's to keep them from flopping, you could get away without them, but it definitely stiffens things up.

One of the most exciting builds I've seen for a long time Mr Woods. I cant believe it flies so well - but that's entirely down to your expertise. I cant imagine what other airborne vehicles from sci-fi films you could produce!
Have you spoken to Mr Lucas about putting it into production? ![]() Jon |

![]() I know a couple of folks with connections to ILM, so maybe the footage will make it's way to the Great Bearded One. -A |
