Brushless Idea for a Pattern Plane

I just obtained a direct drive speed 400 sized pattern plane. The performance as stock (w/7 cell 600ae NiCD) is somewhat sluggish. I would like to throw a brushless in it and run it direct. The AUP is 20oz. Any ideas on a direct drive/prop combo. Im thinking one of the AXI motors with a 5" x 5.5" prop. Am I way off base here ?

I am thinking direct drive for speed over the gearbox.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks !

If you're looking for speed with a direct drive and 5x5.5" prop check out a Mega 16/15/4. Should pull slightly over 20 amps and be pretty fast.

An AXI 2808 would be good for a 20 ounce plane but I think it would be better turning a larger prop. I'm sure somebody else will know the best number of turns to use.

I flew a 16/15/4 in a Zagi until I wore it out (the Zagi not the motor) and also have a 2808/24 in a Angelis 400
